I just got the new Gigablast internet in Ahwatukee and let me tell you, don't waste your money! When the contractors who came out to install it they first ask " Do you know what you are getting"? I said yes, fast internet! And he said maybe. He also said...You will never get 1gb speed (and he said those ridiculous commercials are misleading), you may get faster internet but he'd never seen anyone get above 400mbps. It depends too much on other factors affecting your speed. Wifi will cut it down by half immediately, the older the devise the slower the speed, if your wifi adapter isn't geared for the faster service, you won't get it. Most adapters won't go over 100mbps. Also, the router they give you takes a look at your network and adapts the speed to all connected devices based on the slowest device. So if you have an iPhone 4 connected that will slow everything else down on the network. I’ve had it for nine days and several devices keep losing their connection. That never happened with the older coax 100mbps (really 20mbps-but I paid for 100mbps), the range of the Netgear router is worse than my old Cisco router. However, they finally came out and re-installed it in a better location in the house and the signal is slightly better, but the install looks ‘hokie’ on the outside of the house. So, it’s not really worth it to be an “early-adapter”. I should have waited until Cox had their sh*t together before I made the switch.
