Indeed you would probably see better wifi results with the correct adapter however note you probably still won't see full gigabit speeds over wifi due to limitation of how that technology works. Here's some things to consider when looking for adapters however. All 802.11ac adapters are dual band by nature. The AC standard requires 5.0Ghz connectivity and the adapters will include 2.4Ghz for backwards compatibility. USB is an option and you'll likely see speed improvements however if you don't have USB 3.0 ports to connect the adapter to you'll be limited to USB 2.0 speeds which have a theoretical max of 480Mbps. minus overhead.
