So I got to go and get a new modem again? I just got a new one back in Jan of 2019. So no one can call me right now till I do. But I can call others.
The phone modem could be a different one than the Internet Modem. In my house, I have a separate modem inside the box that all the COX wires come to before they are sent out thru the house and to the phone jacks. There also are coaxial cables sent out to some of the rooms to which I connect my TV/DVR or one to my internet/wireless modem. I'm not sure how your modem connects to your phone, unless it is wireless or you are using strictly cell phone connections. If you are having problem using a landline, and you do not see a phone jack connection from the modem u had in 2019, maybe there is another phone only modem stuck in the closet that is bad or needs re-boot by pulling power cord. Just wondering.....

I think I figured it out. For some stramge reason they now have to add the area code to my number even if they are in the same area code as me.

@Horserider1st Are you saying that until recently, you've been able to make phone calls to numbers within your own area code with just a 7-digit number?

VoIP is no longer dedicated telephone circuits. It's now public and private Internet circuits. Technically, it's no longer circuit-switching but now packet-switching.
You'd think if you're both on the same exchange (area code), you could just dial 4 digits. However, Voice data is encapsulated and addressed differently. Moreover, your calls may be rerouted to a different switching center, so 7-10 digits could be required.

Northeast Oklahoma switched to 10-digit phone numbers for local calls in April, 2010 and it became mandatory the following year. But, I just checked my voice mail by entering my 7-digit number (minus area code). However, 4-digits went nowhere. I tried calling another 7-digit number and I got a recording that said "We're sorry. 7-digit dialing is not permitted. Please hang up and try again".
