phone hook up at cable box

I just had cox installed and want to know if I have to hook the base phone to my cox modem or if I can hook up one of my extra phones to modem. I have a netgear  wifi also. I want to use my base phone in living room if possible.

    Hi gary,

    Please connect the base phone (Main) directly to the modem (Tel 1) in order for the secondary handsets to work. This should get things up and running.
