Cox throttling Twitch
So I have been having lot's of issues streaming on twitch. I was ultimate internet user for about 3 years. I have been having issues streaming on twitch. I have had numerous techs come out and my signal levels are fine. I upgraded to gigablast thinking something might change and I'm still have the issues even after upgrading services and having more then 4 techs come to my house. It clearly looks like cox is throttling upload to twitch. I'm able to stream for about 3 to 7 min without issues then my bitrate up just drops. I reboot my modem and the issue goes away for a few mins. Download speeds are good no other connectivity issues. Modem has been swapped 3 times and I'm hard wired and have tried several different devices. It also looks like there's been several post regarding cox throttling and twitch on reddit and other sites. So what's the deal ? Why is it a issue for people with Cox internet to use twitch for gaming upload. I have to lower my bit rate to 2300 my friend has a different ISP and he has slower speeds then me and is able to do 5000 upload. Someone at Cox needs to look into this and fix this. It's not a issue on my end it's clearly something cox has going on. I even had a tech say it's possible we are throttling twitch I can't say if we are. He even saw the sudden upload spike drop and didn't have a answer and said that it wasn't a official cox test so he couldn't do anything about it but noticed the issue and said he wished he could fix it. I used tohave250-350Mbps down 2 years ago but Cox has throttled down some older DOCSIS 3.0 modems to only have access to the essential 150mbps speed. If Cox didn't have a monopoly on internet service providers in my area I'd switch ASAP. Using anARRIS / SurfboardSB6183. Have Essential Internet with 150mbps download. 2 days ago the internet started throttling to 30down/3up constantly. Techs have come out to check all hardware and connections. Their only solution to getting back to 150 download was to change the modem out to a 3.1 version. However the list of approved modems from Cox is listing the SB6183 as good for "preferred" speeds which should be higher than essential. Anybody else having this problem? Multiple people in my house are trying to play the same game. The game needs to communicate over ports: TCP 54992-54994, 55006-55007, 55021-55040 From working at spectrum/charter in the past, I know there is a throttle limit for data when it comes to uncommon ports. I know service reps also have no idea what I am talking about if I were to call them. Most of our "head end" techs were unaware of this as well. I have been a Cox customer for about 10 months and within the last month I moved and transferred my service. Every since then, I have been unable to obtain download speeds higher then 100 Mbps. I have been paying for Gigablast the entire time and I also pay for unlimited data. I have contacted multiple support representatives and I have not gotten a clear answer as to why this is happening. Most tell me that it is my equipment that is causing the issue and that I should contact the manufacturer. They have even stated that if my equipment wasn't the issue, then there wasn't anything else Cox could or would do for me on this issue. I am using an Arris SB 8200 that is just about 11 months old and a new Amplifi Mesh WiFi system that is less then 2 months old, all of which where working just fine until I moved into this new place. But never the less I have contacted both of them and they can not find anything wrong with their equipment. With that in mind, I reset both to factory settings twice in the last month and I still am not able to download anything faster then 100 Mbps. The last service representative I spoke with scheduled a technician to come out to my home to attempt to resolve the issue. I am skeptical that this will work because when I asked what the tech will do during the appointment, the representative said " hopefully they can fix it, if not they will just have to run it up the ladder and escalate it." They said they had the same problem at there home and that the technician could not resolve it so they have just been dealing with it. So now I will just get to wait and see what happens on Thursday. I cannot get better than between 40-150Mbps service out on my WiFi for the last five months now and my 5G connection constantly drops out. So I'm paying $120 a month for 15-50%of the connection speed I pay for and can't use my fastest wifi option, instead, I have to use the standard one, which runs at 40-70Mbs. I've tried calling tech support and restarting the router works for about an hour before I lose my 5G again. Checking the service on all my wifi devices shows the same speeds. I will try adding a $50, 100ft ethernet cable to see if a hard connection is any better than the wifi, but since I know the service was better before, I don't expect that to make a huge difference. When I initially got it set up, the Cox Speed web tests showed 300Mbps+ on my desktop and two phones, all on wifi connections. Since the pandemic hit, speed has tanked, but for the same price. I can understand if it was maybe 25% slower, but 50-85% is kind of bad, for noadjustment to my bill. While 40-70Mbps is still faster service than Century Links DSL service, and I can understand people are stuck at home and using more streaming services, reducing bandwidth, all I get from support is "I might have a virus or an older computer or speeds in my area may be reduced during peak times," which is 24-hours a day for five months now? Even my auto insurer, State Farm reduced my monthly bill by 50% for 3 months since they knew I wasn't driving my car more than 2-3 times a month. Data caps are a way for you to overload your network and skimp on investing in improving the infrastructure. If your network is strong enough, you don't need them, and they're simply a way to make more money for equipment that is running regardless of whether it's at capacity or not. The fact that you have no difference in data caps between tiers is an additional slap in the face. One should not be able to exceed their allowed usage in three hours at max download speed, what the heck is that all about? Here, check out this amazing speed, but don't use it for more than three hours or pay us extra per 10GB increment or $50 a month and then still get attacked because Cox refuses to invest in their network and would rather find cheap, shady ways to rip of their customers. I can't wait for SpaceX's StarLink to become operational, or any other competitor to become available in the Phoenix area so I can ditch your awful service and never look back again. In the future, I will not purchase or rent property in a location that is only serviced by Cox for internet. That's how much of an impression you make on people, I hope you're happy. Quit being an evil, greedy company and do the right thing for a change. Do not engage in shady business practices, throttling whole neighborhoods upload speeds when the majority users have done nothing wrong, and the ones you claim to have done something wrong are only using their service as advertised by you crooks, and paying extra for "unlimited" to which you respond in this way.
