COX Home Life & Adding Cameras
I have the Full COX setup, internet, cable, and the home life security setup. I have two 'ICamera2" on the system, I purchased another one to add to the system. My understanding is that I can add up to 6 cameras. However, when I called Cox to help add the new camera I was told, that although I have service I am not allowed to add my own camera and I have to have a technician come out, charge me $75 to add a new camera. Reason, my service level doesn't allow for adding this myself. I spoke to a supervisor, and he told me the same thing. "Sorry, you have homelife, and it doesn't allow you to add your own camera, we have to send a tech out at a $75 cost to you to add the camera that you purchased from us into our system" Can someone explain this to me! I am one click away from canceling everything from cox, and I mean EVERYTHING! because this is simply WRONG!804Views0likes1CommentHomelife video over wifi
Hi - I am unable to view live video when using the app or the web portal. I know my camera is connected fine, because I see updated still photos and can take video and additional stills. But, when trying to view live video, it does not work. On the iOS app, it just says "Contacting Camera." The camera is connected through wifi. When the camera is plugged into the router via Ethernet, video seems to work. Is a wired connection necessary?3.6KViews0likes1CommentCox Homelife
Don't know if this is the correct forum for Cox Homelife issues, but that's exactly the point.....Homelife still appears to be an afterthought at Cox given there is no dedicated customer forums page, hard to find support outside of canned videos. Options to upgrade are nothing more than to purchase more less than desireable hardware options (camera selection very limited). One true upgrade option I believe would be greatly received is ability to create custom sounds for event rules (who wants to hear sound of machine gun or helicopter flutter?) something meaningful like "(Child's name) Door Open/Closed" (I have a handicapped daughter) or "Patio Door Open/Closed". Also, if Cox does not desire to improve on it's camera offerings, then the ability to use personally procured IP camera's (even if Cox does not offer support for non-proprietary devices) would be ideal. Finally, while internet connections (Cox's service) has been great, cameras have difficulty remaining connected - thief/car would be 3 miles away by the time I connect to my outside camera. Are there going to be any "true" upgrades in very near future?1.5KViews0likes1CommentUpload speed and static IP
Would it be possible to achieve faster upload speeds? I am currently getting around 30mbps upload. Every once and awhile I will setup a server for my friends and I to play on and it would be nice to have a higher upload. And my second question would be could I get a static external IP? I have a camera system I put up and like to access it from outside my local network but every once and a while it will change. Then I am no longer able to see the cameras on my phone and have to reconfigure my app to the new IP. Thanks for any input!3.4KViews0likes2Comments
