Data Caps
Is there ANY plan to just get rid of data caps altogether? Almost every ISP has migrated away from and abolished data caps at every speed plan in the US. Spectrum in Texas offered 500mbps with no data caps for 60$/mo. The fact that Cox dosent even extend the data cap to say: 2tb for 500mb or 4tb for gigabit is absolutely ludacris. 1.25tb amounts to nothing in 2022 and its either purposefully done to rake more money out of customers or the higher ups are so out of touch they think meat is grown in the deli isle. It wouldn't be so bad if there were actual competitors in the panhandle but that's not the case due to all the lobbying and gerrymandering for control of areas. Cox, please do something an extra 50$/mo for unlimited download is rediculous. If cell providers can offer unlimited data, you have no excuse.379Views0likes0CommentsHigh data usage on one day
Hello, my tracker is showing I have one day with extremely high data usage at 291 GB, meanwhile all the other days are at around 23 GB and Cox is giving me no explanation on what caused this. Anyone know how this can happen? I barely watch tv, do not game, work computer was off, and my cell phone was not connected to the internet.786Views0likes2CommentsWhat is this data **
I just got cox cable recently... when getting the internet 150 mpg and paying 75.00 ish a month. I thought that was flat rate but I guess data is in the mix now and overage... sounds like an old school cell phone plan to me. Since when do we pay for data when your only using WiFi. I’m not using cable or phone just WiFi. So I’m upset because my 75 bill is now going to be more than expected. And then I go to the dam “support” team just so they can up sells the add on’s. Who pays 150.00 for JUST internet. It’s stupid. I’d probably feel a little more calm if the “support” team was ever personable but they are not. Just completely scripted. Doesn’t matter how many phone calls I’ve had. Cox cable... FYI we want people to really be nice and talk to us like they understand and recommend best fits for us clients who are upset with your service.734Views0likes2CommentsAre you fed up with excessively high data usage?
I've been a network engineer for several years, my boss for much longer. We have been compiling tons of information on Cox and the way they do "business" for awhile now under different alias' and addresses. With enough leverage, I feel like we have collected sufficient data to finally push back and would like to compare / contrast with others of a similar mindset. I am absolutely confident at this point there is a case to be made here. I doubt we will garner enough support to achieve a class action, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. That being said, we are more than happy to take on a standard lawsuit ourselves and leave "you" anonymous. If you would like to discuss this in more depth please send me an email at - oldbadgernewtricks@gmail.com (not my primary email for obvious reasons) if you have any material you would like to add or would just simply like to support. I'm not here to debate or discuss on the forums and frankly I don't expect this post to remain up for long, I am just going through the proper channels first so I can document them deleting my post before escalating to more visible options.639Views2likes2CommentsData Plan Notifications should be more frequent to prevent overages
I'm sorry if this comes across as rude but if I'm going to be subjected to the clearly unnecessary policy of data caps then Cox should at least have the courtesy to give more frequent notifications for overages. Right now we only receive a data cap at 85% and 100%. Of the 1 TB "allowance" we get every month, 15% of that is a whopping 150 GB. I guess they think that is enough headway for someone to scale back their usage for the month, but that is a huge amount of potential data usage that goes to waste. Unless someone tracks their own data usage carefully, let's say at the router level (which I am definitely going to be doing from now on), then it is really difficult to know when you are approaching the actual 100% limit. A notification for data usage at 90% and 95% would be much more bearable for me. Cox has a monopoly in my area so its not like I can take my business elsewhere (yay Telecommunications act of 1996), but I just wanted to get my frustrations out there.769Views0likes1CommentExtreme increase in data usage
Since I have renegotiated my price my internet data usage has spiked to more than 2X my previoususage. I added the additional 500GB of data so I wouldn’t go over and now this month I am on trend to use more than the 1TB + 500GB. I’ve changed my network password and name, even factory reset it. No new devices or software are being used. Has anybody else experienced this? I’ve spoken to tech support over the phone and they’ve been utterly useless and suggest I up my plan AGAIN to the unlimited. I feel like Cox is doing this to me on purpose!16KViews0likes12CommentsWhy are you faking the data usage monitor information???
I am a Computer Programmer with a BA in Business Information Systems and Seven Microsoft Certifications including MS Professional and MS Specialist as DBA. I use the internet extensively and until the new cap came in, our usage was less than 800 GB a month. Now, I am supposedly going over every month. My wife and I have cut our internet usage in half, yet we still go over and, because of the over charges, last week I changed our wi-fi passwords, loaded the MAC ID of every device in our home and locked the router from allowing any new devices from connecting. We purposely avoided using data on a single day so we have a good bottom level usage with all the cameras and all the computers going. On that day we used (supposedly 11 or so GB) On Thursday, December 28 my wife and I turned off all but one computer and our video cameras, and we left town. Today I get email stating I have used 86% of our data, but we aren't even home! I logged onto the Cox.net website and it shows that we have been using data for the last three days at the same rate as they claimed we was using last month. No one home, one computer and six - three and four year old - surveillance cameras with a 320x280 video over the internet when I log into them remotely through the internet. Their daily data meter shows that we are using just as much data while we are four hundred miles away as we do when we spend all day steaming on two computers at the same time. On Thursday, when we left town, according to the current reading on our daily usage, we had supposedly already used 25 GB, then Friday when we weren't even home, and still aren't and computers are turned off, Router is secured as of the 26th, we supposedly used 30GB of data!!! I am sure they will say that I am using 30 or more today as well even though I am 420 miles from home. So, to me it appears as though Cox is faking the data usage data and I think we need to start a class action law suit against them for fraud.8.3KViews0likes12Comments
