Phone Tools issues
I received a criminal harassment telemarketer call a half hour ago and the call did not log into Phone Tools. I've concurrently been experiencing issues logging in to PT- a couple times being taken to a page that is selling Phone Tools (Stay on top of your calls with phone tools) and offers links for me to "learn more" or "order now".. Just now got another criminal harassment call (IRS filing suit scam) and will see if that logged). Edit- cannot log in at all. Apparently my account not longer has this feature. Are the servers down? Is there maintenance being performed? Inquiring minds want to know. Edit 2: Finally got in... and both calls showed. There are apparently issues with something at Cox. Will update with any other difficulties experienced logging in.9.5KViews1like9CommentsPLEASE upgrade your phone number blocking feature!
When our phone service was recently upgraded with new equipment (a modem specifically for the phone) we were promised that there would be a new, easier method to block incoming calls by phone number (sales calls, etc.). Well this is apparently not the case (big surprise)! We are being harassed day and night by call after call; sales calls, scams, and so on. I know I'm not the only Cox customer experiencing this and I know that we have been after Cox for years to give us something better than their outdated "Selective Call Rejection" which is limited to 30 numbers and requires manual input of every number we want to block. I need to maintain an Excel spreadsheet just to keep track of the numbers I've blocked! Please don't tell me about the "Do Not Call" registry. It's a joke as most businesses ignore it. If Cox spent as much money on upgrading their phone services as they do on commercials trying to convince us that they are our "Friend in the digital age" then this wouldn't be an issue and they would have more happy customers. So how about it, Cox?14KViews0likes16CommentsCOX Communication ISP VOIP
What is COX Communication policy regarding use of its services both as a ISP and VOIP provider? What can be expected from it should its services be determined as being used fraudently? Have been receiving unsolicited tele marketers who use VOIP tractable to cable providers.2.6KViews0likes1CommentMoving a phone from one room to another
I had a phone installed a year or more ago, at the time there was no charge to add this service, but when I contacted COX today, they informed me that they would charge $50.00 to move the phone from the room it is in now to another in the same house, same wiring, same TV, same internet...etc. What is so difficult about unscrewing a coax wire and screwing it into another room but for some reason, COX won't provide any service without charging ridiculous fees. It's literally a 5-10 minute job and I've managed to just get a coax extension, drill a hole and move it to the next room while it's still connected to the same outlet. The reasoning behind all these charges for doing something so simple is just another reason that COX is becoming the worst provider I've ever used. It's nothing but greed and the two words "Customer Service" don't exist at this company. Good luck to all who stay with this rip-off company. New Years resolution is to change providers ASAP.Solved4.5KViews0likes1CommentRE: harassing phone calls from telemarketers and spammers
Just trying to reply and ended up here. Cox needs to allow the Nomorerobo system, which is free and available on many other Cable phone companies. Forum: Phone Forum Posted: 21 May 2014 Post Subject: RE: harassing phone calls from telemarketers and spammers Post author: ChrisL One thing I'd suggest for starters if you haven't done so already is to visit http://www.donotcall.gov and register your phone number with them. It may take a month or more to update however once complete telemarketers that have not done business with you in the last 6 months are not allowed to call you at that point.0Views0likes0CommentsCaller ID Spoofing

Thank you for having taken the time to read what I have conveyed herein. Have a good day/evening. Sincerely, Ironhand "SEMPER FIDELIS" Forum: Phone Forum Posted: 1 May 2013 Post Subject: Caller ID Spoofing Post author: zone11 I receive an incoming call, but there is a hang-up either in half a ring or just when I answer. I look at the caller ID and it displays a valid phone number from somewhere in the USA. I call it back, and get a three-toneintercept with "We're sorry, the number you have dialed is not in service or is disconnected..." How can a not-in-service number originate a call? Or more likely, why does Cox's computer not reject calls coming into Cox's system that have an invalid caller ID? Cox talks a lot about internet spam filtering; why don't we have telephone filtering as well?6Views0likes0Commentsharassing phone calls from telemarketers and spammers
I am fed up, they call early in the morning and all day and night. There is no relief, except to pull the phone cord from my telephone, but then I miss important phone calls. Is there a charge, based on this, for changing my phone number? I am disabled, caring for a blind man and do not get enough sleep, at night because of intense chronic pain. I try to rest in the mornings or afternoons, but these callers keep calling, letting the phone ring, then hang up. Or they will wait til the answering machine and hang up. I sure need help in changing my number. It will be a hassle, for I will have to notify Medicare, disability and other important offices and people, but I need the peace. Thank you for your assistance in this matter...4.2KViews0likes2CommentsTelephone Spam
I'll guess that Cox has a policy prohibiting a telephone customer from originating automated telephone calls in violation of the Federal Do-Not-Call database. I mean, they do, don't they? Certainly Cox's computer can see a customer suddenly pumping out call after call, and should alert to an abusive pattern, right? So where do all those anonymous spamming calls come from? Are there telcos which are, in effect, rogue pirates set up just to harbor prolific spam pumpers? So why can't those abusive, predatory telcos be put on some kind of blacklist, where the rest of the righteous telcos simply refuse connection to and fromthem? I mean, where's my friend in this digital age?3.6KViews0likes1CommentCox feature *77 is easily defeated and virtually useless due hard core scammers (who are smarter than Cox techs)
Cox is well aware any number that comes in from "out of area" cannot be blocked by using their *77 feature but they do nothing about it. Ask them for that feature and they give you a line about how they can't do anything about it. **! They also say it is not possible to have more than 31 blocked numbers on your *60 list. Both assertions cannot be true, it is a matter of technology and if Cox is that far behind the curve, why do they charge for useless features? I've called Cox Tech Support numerous times in complaints about unwanted calls getting through in spite of my diligent use of *77 and *60. I was told to use *57 and that would go to the police as a phone trace. Just tried it, absolutely not true and does not work. All I got was: "The call cannot be traced as it is out of our service area." WHAM, Cox fails its customers AGAIN. Question: Can Cox hire some of the smart scam artists to set up an effective phone service for them? Their head techs sure don't know what they are doing.5.9KViews0likes1Comment
