Cox Gigablast download speeds are <300 Mbps
My Cox Gigablast download speeds are always below 300 Mbps. I am using Cox delivered modem/router. The technician checked the cable inside/outside the house and replaced the modem. But there is no improvement in download speed. Why Cox markets 940 Mbps download speeds but only below 300 Mbps?? Is it a marketing trick or cheating customers?Solved2.9KViews0likes9CommentsBeware of false advertising on website “upgrades”
Beware of the “upgrade for 50 cents LESS than your current plan” on Cox Upgrade page. Cox is a scam artist. Upgraded for the website price... told me it was actually going to be $20 more than the “50 cents less than your current plan”... like it states on THEIR website... even with the “all-in” pricing - which is a total scam by the way, says it includes equipment and surcharges.. it doesn’t. What Cox is doing is called false advertising, this will be reported to the BBB.687Views0likes2CommentsCox Internet Consistently a FRACTION of What is Advertised
Last week I upgraded to 150 Mbps service. I hooked up my personal Docsis3.0 modem to save on the monthly rental cost and wireless router with ample capacity. I then switched back to the rented cox modem/router so as to remove all potential excuses due to the associate alluding to this being the root cause of the poor performance experienced. The following day I was getting around 900 Kbps on my Xbox when downloading a game update so I called again. After a 40 minute wait and being instructed to unplug my modem for ten seconds (which had been done prior to the call). No performance increase was achieved. After a ten minute chat with the associate my speed magically increased to about 150 Mbps at around 4pm. At 6pm it was down to 15 Mbps again. The following day this poor performance continued so I called again. Again I was instructed to restart my modem but not before having the 1 GBPs service advertised to me. To this poorly time offer I declined on the basis that I have zero (0) confidence that 1 Gbps can be delivered if 150 Mbps cannot be consistently delivered. Again after some talking the speed magically increased to 150 Mbps. And now here we are. Downloading a game update at 15 Mbps with 150 Mbps service only a few days later while listening to Cox’s dates hold music for all of 30 minutes at this point. In what commercial reality is providing 10% of the advertised product or service considered acceptable? Please remedy this issue so that I can consistently receive the service that I am paying for.601Views0likes1CommentAm I getting ripped off?
Ok, I am not assuming anything and want to ask for opinions. Let it be known too that I am pretty tech savvy and have a degree in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State. That being said, I can assure any problems I may be having are not on my end. If I pay for the ultimate internet package with 150 mbps speeds, how come I only get 40? I have called and went to a Cox office a few times about this and was pretty much told that well gee, 150 is the max speed and we are not guaranteed that. I understand that. I know realistically that I probably won't hit 150 mbps, 99% of the time, however, to be within 20% of advertised speeds would be realistic. I have performed speed tests hard wired directly in the modem. A few months ago, I would get 100+ without a problem. Then all if a sudden it disappeared. It's now 3 AM, a low use time and my highest speed was 44.19. I asked the rep then I should drop my package down to only pay for 50 mbps if I am only getting 40. He tells me that if I do that, I would probably get 10 or 15. I don't get it. Is that not false advertising? Why am I paying for something that I am not even getting 50% of what is promised and get mocked be tech support? $70 a month for a 40 Meg connection seems expensive. What else can I do? I would switch if there were an alternative. We have about 15 devices connected and do a lot of streaming, so having the higher bandwidth is needed. The service is constant. I do not suffer any issues other than speed. Remember, I am testing directly into the modem with no router or other devices connected. Also, what is the point of rolling out gigabit speeds if you are going to limit people to 400 GB of data. It's like giving somebody a Ferrari but saying, hey, don't go past that stop sign down the street. I bet you that if instead of sending check for $70, I sent a check only for $30, since I am only agreed to pay "up to" $70, they would not be very happy. Thanks for your feedback.4.7KViews0likes10Comments
