Modem relocation - Alarm Co. phone signal conflict.
Recently moved in with Parents. Poor signal in areas of any distance from modem/router which is located in furthest 1st floor corner under massive custom built in desk on firewall between home and attached garage (pretty much ticks the box of every DONT when determining equipment placement I know). Movedit to centrally located office on second floor and signal was great in every location Crisis averted/Parents think I'm Genius! Until... 2 days later home alarm system started sounding off every 15 min. apparently to notify us that it was no longer receiving a signal from our equipment. I guess it receives it thru a dedicated (might not be correct term here) phone line that comes into house in that 1st floor office and goes directly into the modem. I really cannot run that phone line all the way up to the 2nd floor office I wanted to move equipment to. I have tried repeaters, extenders, routers WAP's, etc. and nothing comes close to achieving the signal strength I get when Modem and Router is placed in 2nd floor office location. I know this is the most annoying question on here so please do not hate me I did attempt to find a solution in these forums for quite sometime before deciding to post. So my apologies in advance if I missed a glaring answer. I have a duplicate model of my modem. Could I possibly set it up and configure it to match existing exactly without paying for a second service. If not I am open to any other suggestions. Thank you in advance for your time.....610Views0likes2CommentsPoor Signal On Local Channels
I've noticed over the last month, poor signals on my local channels here in Phoenix. I get pixilation so bad I can't really watch the show. It seems to only be on the local network channels (CBS, NBC, ABC & FOX). Doesn't matter if I'm on 15 or 1015. Channels like HGTV, HIST, SCIFI don't seem to be affected. It starts every day around 11am and seems to stop around 6 or 7 in the evening. My suspicion is it is heat related but then what do I know. I just know my wife is not happy!1.3KViews0likes1CommentInternet keeps dropping out, losing signal, Modem shows errors
I have had issues off and on since Feb 2015 with about 6-8 techs coming to my house, 2 different modems, and many other things checked/done by Cox to correct the issue. I continuously have issues with my modem dropping the internet or low levels which affects my router and it drops my wireless and wired connections. Most recently last night I received a broadband outage notification from my alarm company and when I check my modem logs there is a error around the exact time and as well in my router. I then receive a notification about 2 hours later that broadband was restore and similarly in my router logs it shows internet connection restored. They have checked all wiring from street box to modem and even ran a drop line from the street direct to the modem, Cox has tried a couple of their own modems and even replaced mine for free. The issues resolved after rebooting everything for a couple hours to a few days. For the Cox techs on here you will see in my account numerous records of me being told it is something on Cox end and also some saying they see nothing wrong because by the tie 2-3 days later when they send someone it is working. Here is what I see in my Modem for the last 3 days- note that I didn't have any issues yesterday when using the internet Time Priority Description 2015-08-30 00:57:57 4-Error DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response v4 option;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:d 2015-08-28 07:53:03 3-Critical Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC= 2015-08-28 02:57:24 5-Warning MDD message timeout;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:de;CMTS-MAC=00:14:f1:e6:f4:e1;CM-QOS=1 2015-08-28 02:57:24 3-Critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;; 2015-08-28 02:57:17 5-Warning MDD message timeout;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:de;CMTS-MAC=00:14:f1:e6:f4:e1;CM-QOS=1 2015-08-28 02:57:17 3-Critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;; 2015-08-28 00:58:42 3-Critical Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance o 2015-08-28 00:57:59 6-Notice TLV-11 - unrecognized OID;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:de;CMTS-MAC=00:14:f1:e6:f4:e1;CM 2015-08-28 00:57:58 5-Warning DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response ;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:de; 2015-08-28 00:57:34 6-Notice T4 No Station Maint Timeout - Reinitialize MAC... 2015-08-28 00:57:34 3-Critical Received Response to Broadcast Maintenance Request, But no Unicast Maintenance o 2015-08-28 00:56:20 3-Critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;; 2015-08-28 00:55:36 5-Warning MDD message timeout;CM-MAC=a4:7a:a4:7b:96:de;CMTS-MAC=00:14:f1:e6:f4:e1;CM-QOS=1 2015-08-28 00:55:36 3-Critical SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Failed to acquire QAM/QPSK symbol timing;;1.9KViews0likes1CommentDigital Signal Drop Out issues
So is honestly the only answer from COX to reset your cable box and or have a technician come out and look at it and then possibly replace the box multiple times? I'm not trying to be a pain but seriously? This is obviously an issue and yet it doesn't look like Cox is really serious about fixing the issue. We JUST got our box about three weeks ago and from the first day the tech left we have had multiple stations that the signal drops out, freezes and is just not there. What the crud am I paying for? It is usually on the two "Special" channels we get, HBO and STARS. All through the movie the signal freezes, drops out completely or is all broken up. It is quickly looking to me that I need to go get a digital UHF antenna and just be happy with the 15 channels I can get OTA and drop the T.V. side of Cox. The internet portion is working fine. Just the T.V. channels seem to ***......2KViews0likes1CommentInternet Outages on Hot Afternoons. Poor Signal to Modem?
Hello Everyone, As the summer heat has appeared I have begun to experience connection outages later in the day, especially when it is very hot. These outages can last from 10 minutes to over 3 hours. I have had a technician visit my apartment to verify that my modem as well as the cable coming from my wall are all functioning correctly. As an outage was not occurring while the tech was here nothing was solved. I have come to the conclusion that a poor signal quality my be to blame for my issue and I have attached a screenshot of my modem's signal diagnostics page. These are from this afternoon and reflect the levels that I usually get. I am fairly certain that the power levels shown are outside of the acceptable range and that this my be the cause of my problem. I unfortunately have no idea how to fix this. I was told by the tech that visited my home that all of the cable in the walls is suitable and that there is no problem with my modem. Is the signal strength as shown causing my issue? If so what can I do to remedy this problem? How can the quality of the signal be improved? The constant afternoon outages make it very difficult to work on any of my projects so I am desperate for a fix. Thank you for your help.4KViews0likes5CommentsSplitters for other device for splitting main line to modems and TV
We’re replacing the coaxial cable run from our Condo’s utility/ equipment room where Coax Cable connects to our attic. The main line coax run from the utility/ equipment into the attic is 100 to 125 feet. Please let me know what splitter or devices I should use to connect the main coax line in my attic (Belden 7195a RG6 coax main line) to: (1) Cox Phone Modem, (2) Cox Internet Modem, and (3) Single TV downstairs. Also, does a 2-way or 3-way splitter create less signal loss: Option (1) 2-way splitter unbalanced to the main line (with one side to the TV downstairs and one side to a second 2-way splitter going to the Modems) or Option (2) 3-way splitter (with low loss side connected to longer coax run to TV and the other two sides going to the modems) or Option (3) Suggestion for a better option(s) For small fee, the contractor will my Belden 7195a RG6 along with their RG11 CommScope 4818803 F11TSEF (830BMU). Cox recommended I have a dual line going to my attic in case of damage and my research shows the Belden 7195a is a good solid core tri-shield cable. Also, what Brand splitter(s) do you recommend and do you recommend an inline coax surge protector? I’ve been considering the Extreme Broadband BDS102H and BDS103H. Thanks!9.1KViews0likes2CommentsLow WIFI Signal
HI, We have had this Cox internet for about 3 years now and since the first day, the WIFI speed and signal was REALLY low. The laptop that we use is about 15 feet from the router and modem, but the 2 rooms on the other side of the wall next to the router which are about 5 feet far, we get almost no signal for phones and laptops. Please help me bring the signal higher! Thank you!3.1KViews0likes2Comments
