Coax Service Upload Speeds
I'm quite sure this has been brought up a million times. Perhaps if it keeps coming up though, someone high up at Cox with some pull may take notice... What is the deal with the overly disproportionate cable internet bandwidth packages? Having to pay for the 1Gbps DL plan just to get (up to) 35Mbps is quite ridiculous. There is more of a use case these days for 50Mbps+ upload than there is for a gigabit download. With the ever-increasing utilization of cloud storage, remote work, and self hosted services, Cox would benefit from taking a step back and reevaluating their plan options. Don't try telling me that it is an infrastructure limitation. I understand the capability differences between fiber optic and coax. It would be unfair to compare fiber ISPs to Cox Cable like others have done previously on this forum. That said, modern DOCSIS 3.1 modems (as required by Cox) absolutely have the channel technology to offer higher upstream bandwidth. If I can wirelessly obtain 60Mbps+ upload speeds from a 5G modem inside my brick home using a $10/month plan from a major carrier, then Cox has zero excuses to provide faster upload when they have the upper hand from using a physical medium. I would pay more per month for a 100/100 plan than I currently do for a 1000/35 plan, and I know I'm not alone. All Cox has to do is offer it, why can't they?55Views0likes1CommentUpload Horrible
I have an ARRIS SURFboard SB8200A that is 4 years old. I have a RT-AC3100 router. Gigabit Ethernet package There are days that are good and days that are bad. Download is usually around the 500-700 mark. It is the upload that is BAD. But it isnt all the time, and I dont know if there is any consistency to the times when it works or when it is really bad. I use speedtest.net to test. When it is really bad, I sit under 1 upload, and other times it is <5. There are sometimes when it is the 30+ that it should be, but more often than not it is under. Cox support suggests buying a new modem. I just dont feel like spending the money to keep going on a merry go round of problems that has been my Cox service. Any thoughts or input that has helped you or anyone you know?816Views0likes4CommentsUpload Speed Dropping Multiple Days.
Hello, So me and my wife have been having the issue with our internet where our upload speed just drops and I'm not talking like -3mbps I'm talking our Upload speed will be at like 30mbps and then drop to 2.0mbps. We both game and that's not an issue since out Download Speed has been pretty good usually 800mbps. The issue is we both tend to stream but we cant stream on a 2mbps upload speed if anything we need a 10mbps upload speed. This is also interfering with my wife's work as well since she needs at least a 11mbps upload speed for work. Also we are Hard Wired and the router is a Nighthawk AX6 and the Modem is a Surfboard 3.1. Both really good Pieces of hardware. Before we used the Router Modem provided by Cox and it used to work great but all of a sudden we have been getting drops in our internet for the past 2 years since getting our own hardware since we were already paying so much just to get internet. I've Called Multiple Times to help fix the issue and I'm always just given the run around. I call Cox they say its nothing wrong in their system they transfer me over to Arris and they tell me its not their system to check Netgear and then they tell me its not their hardware and the cycle continues. I just need help this is getting out of hand and we are paying a lot of money for the internet only for it not to work. Has anyone else had issues with their upload speed just dropping? If so what did you do to fix it? When I got the new router it was running great but then we just get those random Upload Speed drops that last for a week then we have good internet for 2 days then it drops again. If someone could help please and thank you and if not I do appreciate you taking the time to read this. For the record we have the Gigablast plan and yes the router is up to date with updates and yes I've tried resetting it and also factory resetting the router and still not working.844Views0likes2CommentsI have the unlimited data plan for $50 each month yet cox reduced my gigablast plan to 50m download 3m upload which is completely inadequate, for 90 days because they think I am HARMING others connection in the neighborhood
I purchased the unlimited plan because I need to use a lot of data and you are saying I'm actually not allowed to do that? the person also in a insulting manner say he could not remove the limit nor could his fu**** supervisor. just because they see my usage as not appropriate they punish me? and btw they formally downgraded my service so it's not me "feeling like" it is throttling. anyone has the same problem?812Views0likes2CommentsI have the unlimited data plan for $50 each month yet cox reduced my gigablast plan to 50m download 3m upload which is completely inadequate, for 90 days because they think I am HARMING others connection in the neighborhood.

My plan has 1MBPS upload, but I only get 10~15% of that. I'm looking at activity monitor right now (As I'm uploading a file), and I see 0.127 MBPS. Funny thing is that when I try the Cox speed test, suddenly my upload rate jumps up to the advertised amount. So I'm sure the issue is not on my hardware. Is there anything I can do to fix this?554Views0likes1CommentMy upload speed plummeted all of the sudden?
Ive had the service for 4 months had above advertised speeds the entire time. no crashes. no lag. no latency problems or packet loss and no service loss aside from when Oklahoma had the statewide freeze last month internet preferred 150 all the sudden, just today.. my download is going from 80 to 160 instead of a solid 160 and my upload speed is staying at 0.2 instead of the 8 its normally at (even though its rated for 10) my PC ethernet port is solid orange. means its established 1gbps link and is a good cable. the router lights are all white and the ethernet port is solid green. havent changed any wifi settings or PC settings every time i contact support they recommend upgrading routers and promise they aren't throttling me. if its not throttling, something is wrong with the Cox center by me. 4 months. consistent speed. 1 night i all the sudden go from 8.0 Upload to 0.2 and to fix it i need to pay 10.99 a month to upgrade routers to the newer revision.. if that revision has been out for year, why wasn't it the one initially installed?! and why should i have to pay extra to access the internet speeds i'm already paying for couple months ago i was being hounded on support to get gigablast like.. i dont need 940 Mbps. no one does. i gamed on 12Mbps 0.97 for 5 years. 16 hours a day. no lag. each device only needs that speed to game lagless. 940 is beyond overkill. even though 10Mbps is beyond lackluster compared to ATTs 240Mbps upload.. it would be BEYOND fine for a single PC gaming and streaming and has worked flawlessly for 4 months until tonight. for these 4 months, the service and customer service have been stellar.. now i just feel like i'm getting swindled. and to have someone check out the service i'm paying for and the router i'm renting.. i have to pay more money too. come on.1.1KViews0likes2CommentsSeverely Low Upload Speed, Regular Download
For about a week now, I've been experiencing connection issues where others experience lag from data coming from me, such as in VOIP applications and games. I reset my modem and router and have been checking my speeds on various internet speed tests and have the same results: Download speed is pretty normal, usually around 800Mbps (my plan is up to 940) Upload speed is awful, 0.1-0.2 Mbps, while I'm supposed to be able to get up to 35 Mbps as per my plan. I could really use any help with getting this issue rectified. As far as my hardware I'm using an ASUS AC3200 Router and an ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 Modem. The connection issue is the same on all connected devices.1.2KViews0likes0CommentsInexistent Upload Speeds
I've been living in my new home for almost three months now. When I moved in, the houses were all wired for Cox internet. I went with the gigablast plan, as I need good internet to do what I do (streaming). At the beginning, the internet was great. After a week or so, I would have issues with the internet dropping upload speed for about an hour at a time. When I say they would drop, I mean they would basically be inexistent (dropping below 1mbps upload). Download speeds were always workable. Although, they are not the speeds I pay for, I can still live with it (usually around 400mbps). Anyway, one day it went out for three hours, so I decided to call a tech out. Upon arrival he stated that there was nothing he could do because he couldn't come inside my home due to COVID-19, understandable. There was then a long period of time where I had relatively no issues. Consistent 35 mbps upload. This past two weeks, the issue has resurfaced and not left. I was streaming one night and dropping over 75% of rendered frames due to network lag. I tested my speeds and got 0.2 mbps upload speed. I told myself, "Okay well it will fix itself in an hour or so, shouldn't be a big deal." An hour passed and it was still bad. I continued to test it every hour for 8 hours and it never stabilized. I called another tech out. They changed out some fittings and connections on the wires and said it was all good. I tested it while they were there and got 25 mbps upload, which is workable. Before they left, they told me that if the issue persists there's only two other things that could be causing the issue: The modem, or the main line (the one that runs to the telephone pole). Later that evening, I checked the speeds again and received 7 mbps upload speed. As a streamer, this concerned me because that is barely enough to stream on. I didn't want to take the risk because I would be dropping frames. This morning I tested it again and got 1 mbps upload, so I went to the Cox store and swapped modems. Came home, hooked up the modem, and got 0.4 mbps upload. I called out another tech to come out tomorrow morning, but it seems the issue is within the main line. I will update this post as I get more answers. Hopefully this issue is resolved in the near future.1.3KViews0likes6CommentsPacket Loss / Slow Upload speeds
Friends at Cox, I am at a loss. In previous posts and conversations, I have gone to great technical lengths to resolve issues with upload speeds. Now I'm trying to gather some information to see if there's something simple I am missing. From2013-2017, I streamed (on multiple platforms) in high quality at roughly 4500 bitrate with crystal clarity. I played games with virtually no lag. College courses and their associated virtual labs, no issues. Everything ran perfectly. I generally had a mid-level data plan running in the 100-200 down and 30 up (advertised). After coming back from a 7 month trip I moved down the street and experienced severe packet loss and upload issues. I troubleshooted with Cox reps and coworkers for awhile and never could isolate the issue. I work in networking and work with a range of people with a range of skill sets in networking and couldn't isolate the issue. I swapped out every single piece of hardware from my network card to the modem. Additionally, manipulated every aspect of software from packet manipulation through VPN's that claim to prioritize packets to reduce loss to IP stack manipulators and dozens of YouTube videos that help "fix" the problem. After that, I literally moved across the country from the West Coast to the East Coast and ran into the same problem. Routers, modems, cables and even my entire desktop have been swapped out. All routers / modems are highly capable and expensive and rated for this environment. Every single piece of hardware has been replaced and tested methodically and I STILL experience upload issues and packet loss. Currently, I'm running "Gigablast" internet. Download speeds range from 300-900 Mbps and upload speeds range from 6-25 Mbps but with packet loss when streaming / uploading. If anyone that has been experiencing these issues has found a solution or fix in any capacity I'd love to hear about it or start some dialogue on hardware/software setups and troubleshooting processes involved to see what the issue is.810Views0likes1Comment
