Are you going through a amplifier? Your signal levels are high for some channels but really low SNR. Do you live in a apartment? Also, just because it wasn't happening a month ago, doesn't mean it's NOT a inside wiring issue. Things break.
It's a Zoom, they cannot handle signals that are hot or long, Arris can.

Is there any technical reason why? Doesn't DOCSIS have to work the same for all devices approved for the standard? What's missing on the Zoom?

I cannot answer that other than it's always been a device that's not nearly as good as others. Whether it's components that are more cheaply made/assembled, or programming that's not nearly as good, I cannot tell you. What I CAN tell you is. it's not a device i would EVER recommend to anyone!. You can look ALL over the forums here and other cable providers and see that the ZOOM and MB86xx series has problems.
THAT, and people still believe it's Motorola! It's dishonest, underhanded, sneaky, and downright fraudulent!
