I've been having issues with Outlook and Cox email for a couple of weeks sending e-mail and keep getting authentication error. I had used the settings from the e-mail and snail mail that Cox had sent. I now have it working.
Steps to make it work with Outlook:
1. Set incoming POP3 to pop.cox.net
2. Set outgoing to smtp.cox.net
3. Enter your cox login username and password
4. Click More Settings button.
5. Click Outgoing Server tab and click the box Outgoing Server Requires Authentication and click the bullet for Use Same Settings as my Incoming Server.
6. Click Advanced Tab. Set settings as below:
- Incoming Server (pop3) = 995
- click checkbox for This server Requires Encrypted connection (SSL).
- Set Outgoing server (SMTP) = 587
- Set dropdown under Use Following Type of encrypted connection to TLS
7. Click OK. Outlook will test settings. If yours is like mine it should be successful.
