You wouldn't happen to be using a MB series motorola modem. (Not really a motorola, it's a ZOOM modem, and it's KNOWN for these issues).

Oh? Yes it is an MB8600. Thanks for letting me know. What DOCIS 3.1 modem that suports 1 Gig internet (without WiFi or router) should I look at replacing it with? Arris Surfboard SB8200?

I had a new-in-the-box one of those (Arris SURFboard SB8200) on the shelf for a spare...opened up to try it out 9 months ago or so and found it to be less than reliable. The Cox tech that came out back then said that he knew of problems with it, and recommended staying on the MB8600 (just his opinion).
I am open to suggestions.

The Arris 8200 is a decent modem, I am currently using a netgear Cm2000. It's a bit pricey, but DAM, it's fast and stable!
I put it online 44 days ago -

Zoom bought the name Motorola and slapped it on THEIR equipment so people would buy their equipment, believing they had purchased a Motorola.

I ended up upgrading to an Arris SURFboard S33. Seems to be a nice modem: small form factor, provides a 2.5 Gbs ethernet port (in addition to a 1 Gbps port), and is rated for up to 3.5 Gbps download.
To clarify: the new modem is working fine. But the old MB8600 also started working fine after an email to Cox.Help@cox.com (as suggested by ChrisJ2 ) So I still don't know the root cause of the packet loss problem.

Hi there,
There is not much our technical support can do remotely except reset the modem. We are glad to learn there was improvement and the technician will be able to answer any remaining questions once they conclude the visit.
