It was the same make and model. I am not sure what was wrong. It was what I was told and they wanted to send a tech out and I didn't believe I needed it. I bought a third party and it was fine. Couldn't get any real help with customer service or tech support
No real help seems to be a recent trend.
What's the make/model of the second modem?
Can you return it to Cox due to erroneous advice?
What modem do you have now? Just curious (nosy).

it was the Paranoramic Tg1682. I am going to return it tomorrow. I bought the netgear cm500

The ARRIS Surfboard TG1682 (first & second modem) is not just a modem...but a modem, router and telephone modem. This adds a wrinkle to your original problem because the "cutting in and out" could have been the router.
Did you use the WiFi of the first & second modem?
The Netgear CM500 is only a modem. Do you have a separate router? Do you subscribe to telephone service?
