For True 1000Mbps you want DOCSIS 3.1, which isn't ready yet. For now, fiber to the home (FTTH) is the best way to get those kind of speeds consistantly. Cox has had fiber on the lines for a while, they are now just adding that 1/2 mile. Even when D3.1 becomes standard, FTTP will still offer advantages in latency and less congestion under heavy load. They should rebrand the cable 1Gbps from the FTTP 1Gbps. Gigablast vs GigaWarp? Unlimited data and improved peering for video and gaming.
