It is well past 9 AM ET and nothing has happened. In any case, it would be nice if Cox would inform us about such activities, preferably in advance, and their periodic progress in an easily accessible web page which would save us a lot of headache and wild goose chase. Otherwise whenever I have contacted Cox tech support, their standard reaction has been to suspect my setup, suggesting needless actions and causing frustration.

After all this you have to ask me that and what good is it supposed to do?
Anyway, here are some excerpts from the several chats I had with your tech support since last Wednesday.
>Since last night pop.cox.net has been timing out. Is it down?
<Am going to have this issue been looked into a bit further for you.
<I was advised that we have been doing a few mainatenace as we are having our email software being updated for you
>I see. Any idea when it will be over?
<I do recommend that you do give us until an hour tops to have the upgrade done then you cab retry sending out your emails again.
>I can do that. I wish it was mentioned in your outage report page.
<Yes within an hour time.
<I definitely do apologize for the inconvenience at this time.
We should have sent out full details that we are doing the upgrade for you.
<Yes this started on Tuesday so we do have customers with similar situation.
>Ah, so. So please let me know by phone when the issue is resolved.
In my case it started last night.
<Thank you.
>So will you let me know when it is fixed?
<Yes we will Dave, I can assure you.
>Good. I will count on that.As I had fully expected, total radio silence since then and no idea where things stand. If the previous similar episode is any indication, it may be weeks or even months before any results are seen.

Following the suggestions made by several members I turned off SSL in Thunderbird for all my accounts and they are all working - for now anyway. Thanks to them all. It also pulled a bunch of messages from the Inbox of Webmail but not Sent messages.

After turning off the SSL, pop.cox.net had begun to work again but became extremely slow. So I just turned SSL on and email receiving has become fast again. Looks like whatever was wrong has corrected itself and without a single setting change on my part. Hope my luck holds.
