what kind of guests visits, that you don't trust with your wifi access??

It's not a question of trust but probably convenience. Perhaps OP filters MAC addresses...perhaps OP doesn't broadcast...perhaps OP doesn't want to spell the SSID every time (not to mention the key)...perhaps OP prefers a "tight" network...perhaps OP wants to admin the network his or her way.

in the old days i could hide the ssid, not so much any more with equipment i'm willing to add.
i broadcast my encrypted ssid & maybe see one intrusion/month.

same encrypted ssid i connect to for several cell phones/laptops.
it shows up with all the other encrypted ssid's i see when i go for walks in the area if i'm in settings/wifi..
