Intermittent Connectivity Issue - Connected Hardwired - Already Replaced Modem
Hello Everyone, I'm having an intermittent connectivity issue that I've been dealing with for a few weeks now. Usually I call in, they schedule a tech to come out in a few days, but by the time the tech is scheduled to come, the Internet comes back. I've already replaced the modem. I have replaced the Ethernet cords as well. The new modem is a brand newARRIS SURFboard SB6183 When it works, I get the full speeds & I'm very happy with the service. Today I went to Walmart & purchased a Cox Fast Connect kit. I traced the coaxial cable that is coming from the wall to my modem, and noticed there was some type of additional coaxial cable between the wall's cable & the modem's (I don't think it's a splitter but I may be mistaken) On this coaxial cable it reads (PCT ATZ677TSBVVE1P TRITON RG6 Z-WIRE PATENT US7084343 (ETL) us CATV CM BM 18AWG I disconnected that cable, so now the coaxial cable that comes from the wall is going directly to the modem. Now it seems like it has solved my Intermittent Connectivity Issue, however now my upload speed is only 5MBPS (before it was 30MBPS) The download speed remains the same (300 - 330MBPS) I'm just wondering what this cable is for, is it some type of amplifier that helps with the upload speed? Hopefully someone here can assist me. I currently have the internet package that allots 500mbps Download/10mbps Upload. For the last 9 months my upload speeds have been inconsistent. I am a content creator for Twitch TV, so my job relies on my live uploads. During these live upload streams, my bitrate (which is set to 4000kbps) is constantly "bouncing" from 0kbps - 5000kbps. I have had at least 5 technicians come to my home in the last 30 days. They all agree that I am suffering from intermittent speeds and packet loss and the problem is somewhere BEFORE it reaches the relay behind my house. According to my broadcasting software, these issues are due to "Insufficient Bandwidth". It is also worth mentioning that during my live uploads, all my devices on the network paused except for my desktop. My gaming console isn't connected to the internet. AttachedareUpstream/Downstream power level, a pingplotter test from a couple days ago, a speed test I just completed today, and my last streaming log. What more can I do? Things that have been done: Cox Panoramic modem/router has been replaced with a new Cox Panoramic Modem/Router All inside cables (ethernet, Coaxial) have been replaced Drop line outside home has been replaced Built a brand new PC from scratch to eliminate the possibility of having a "dated" pc Relay on the Tap behind my house has been replaced.2KViews0likes4CommentsI've had an intermittent issue since the beginning of December.
I've had an intermittent issue since the beginning of December. In December, something was entirely busted and had to have a technician come out and fix it. My net was down entirely when it happened, but ever since the fix my internet has not been stable. I got Cox's most recent cox panoramic WiFi modem a few months ago(This thing comes with less configuration options than my Net-gear modem which I asked about and not even support knew. Couldn't even tell me if this thing had QoS or anything else). My old modem wasn't the issue. I have a new PC and that also isn't the issue. My internet lag spikes consistently. Even when I'm doing absolutely nothing. Even when I am the only one on the modem. The modem is directly connected to the wall just like my old one was and my PC is directly connected with an Ethernet cable. If you want me to ping plotter (or something else)for a period of time, I can. There sometimes is packet loss and sometimes there isn't, but the ping response time can REALLY(500ms+) get up there. Yes I've done simple things like, resetting the modem. Unplugging it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Making sure I'm the only one connected. The works. The connection isn't stable and I didn't want to do this, but this has been going on since before Covid-19 began and hoped this would straight out after a period of time back in December, but it never did. Others are convinced it's the entire block in this neighborhood that's scuffed, but that's kind of hard to get people to move to fix.474Views1like2Comments
