I'm in Las Vegas and pulling an IP address from Cox in Naperville Illinois. Why?
Was at a friend's house today relocating his CenturyLink modem and when we tried to run a speed test, it was trying to connect to Wichita, KS. I got home and the same thing was happening to me. I then noticed a 50.x.x.x IP address which is in Illinois. This is the first time I've ever been assigned an IP address NOT from Las Vegas (where I'm at). I contacted support and they of course blamed my "third party modem" that I've been using for years and suggested I get Complete Care for an extra $10/mo so they can maybe fix their DHCP servers? I'm not sure how my modem could decide to pull an IP address from the midwest. No, I'm not using a VPN and I'm on a Netgear CM1000 that apparently has the power to pull IP address from anywhere in the US.5KViews0likes0CommentsHow can I get a new public IP address for the paranomic gateway in my home?
Hi, I am a cox user in South California. Currently I am having issue with my cox network that it seems like the public IP of our gateway is blocked by Chinesefirewall and I cannotvisitsome websites in China. I am wondering if there is an easy way to get a new IP address for myparanomic gateway. I've tried methods like reseting the gateway or unpluging my gateway at night for like 6-7 hours but I still got the same public IP address. I searched the forum and some threads suggested to unplug gateway for 24 hours, which is not so viable because there are other people in my home relying on the network. Are there any other way to get a new public IP address for my gateway? I'll appreciate it if you could help me. Thank you.4.7KViews0likes4CommentsList of destination IPs/subnets used by the Contour 2 App?
I have both Cox and another broadband provider in my house for internet. I'd like to be able to use the Contour App from my iPad, but I need to make sure that it's using the Cox connection for outbound traffic so your system knows I'm actually "at home". Do you have a FAQ/list of destination networks the App uses so that I can set up a static route for them? This should ensure the App always goes out the right path whenever I'm at home.3.9KViews0likes3CommentsIP Address from Another City
I'm very annoyed! The latest Cox Communications update (May 2021) changed the IP address to Tucson, Arizona. I'm in Phoenix, AZ. Customer support was ZERO help. Reboot, reset, and every other suggestion in the support library or community was also ZERO help. The only useful item found was a similar posting where someone in Mesa, AZ had an IP address located in another city FIVE YEARS AGO. The response: it's a temporary situation. Uh huh. Does anyone know how to fix this issue so the IP address on my system shows my actual location or a location closer than 200 miles away?3.3KViews0likes7CommentsInvalid IP assignments from DLink DIR-655 router
Wondering if anyone has seen this. My DLink DIR-655 router has suddenly started assiging ip addresses to devices that are not within the IP range on the router itself. The router shows the range from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. But, it assigns ip addresses such as 192.168.2.101 to devices. They do not connect. If I go to the device and the router and assign a statuc IP address within the expected range, it does work. This started happening within the last three weeks or so. I did replace the router with a new one (Same model) yesterday hoping this would take care of the problem, but there was no change. My Email host Lunarpages keeps blocking my mom's COX IP address. Her IP address keeps getting blacklisted resulting in halting of all her incoming Email. I call the Lunarpages, my EMail host, and they add her new IP address to their whitelist and it's good again until Cox changes her IP Address? This has happened more than a dozen times in the past 12 months. All Lunarpages tech support will tell me is that the blacklisting is an automated response to 10 attempts at logging in over a 5 minute period of time. She uses Outlook, and she does not look at her mail every day. Most of the time it happens when she has not looked at her email for a few days and she notes that new email has not been downloaded for a few days. I then remote into her PC and find that she has internet access to all websites except my domain, and that is key to knowing my domain host Lunarpages has blacklisted her IP again. No one else who uses my domain name as an email address has ever been blacklisted. Any suggestions on how to fix this?2.9KViews0likes1CommentGet IP from Cox.net
Are there any tools available through COX.com that will tell me the IP of my modem remotely? I have DynDns setup but for some reason it was not updated by my router. It seems this would be a pretty east thing to do since you have access to the modem and network.2.9KViews0likes1CommentIP Address location incorrect
Something is wrong at the Cox end with respect to IP address location. I live in SoCal and websites that have normally detected my location correctly are now detecting my location as Kansas City, KS. Even the Cox website told me I wasn't in their service area because my zip code was in Kansas, even though I'm still living in the same zip code I've lived in for 20+ years. This has happened since August 2nd, when we left town for a few days. Upon return and turning on our computer, we have been recognized as Kansas dwellers. I spend three hours using online chat support where the best solution was to clear cache and cookies, reset my modem and router, then reboot my computer (which I had done three times already, and had told the support minions as much!). Of course, when they successfully reset my modem from their end, they also ended the chat! Twice. Needless to say, I am slightly pissed. Just for my own edification, I used Google to find sites that provide location based on IP. Lo and behold, numerous sites show me in Kansas based on my IP. Some show me in the (correct) LA area based on the same IP. So, it would appear that Cox has soiled the bed linens by providing bad and conflicting information to IP address location services. What is Cox going to do to correct this, as it is nearly impossible to redirect some sites (such as AAA, when I was trying to pay a bill) away from the detected location.2.9KViews0likes2CommentsTrying to reset my WAN IP address in 2021 and get a new IP
Was doing some research and found that my IP address hadn't changed in almost 30 days - very worrisome for security and privacy reasons. I'm a RESIDENTIAL subscriber, not a business subscriber so I shouldn't have a static IP assigned to me at all times. I've been trying to reset my IP address by rebooting my Internet modem - no dice. I've left it unplugged and not powered for 5-12 hours - still same IP. Did Cox suddenly stop doing Dynamic IP configs? Are all customers just static now? I tried calling technical support about this and they weren't of any help, totally incompetent. Are any Cox Communications technical support personnel able to verify or assist with my concerns? I do NOT want to retain the same public WAN IP address for any longer than 2 or 3 weeks. That's insane. Thanks in advance.2.7KViews0likes3Comments
