YouTube is unusable with the fastest connection. Is Cox responsible for this?
After having problems for weeks of not being able to stream YouTube videos, I decided to do some research. The link below shed the most light on the subject, and I would like to know if Cox is having peering agreement issues or any other type of business deal that would be making YouTube unusable for me. If any Cox customers are having trouble streaming YouTube, I suggest taking a look at this article: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/07/why-youtube-buffers-the-secret-deals-that-make-and-break-online-video/ I pay $100 a month and my most recent speedtest.net results were great, 92 Mb/s down, 23 Mb/s up, but I CANNOT stream a 60 second YouTube clip at 240p resolution without it buffering 10+ times and taking 15+ minutes to play a 1 minute video clip. While AT&T U-Verse may not offer the same speeds, if I can't watch YouTube it is a deal breaker for me. From this great article (linked above), it says AT&T is one of the best behaved ensuring problems like this don't happen. "Schaeffer said this is true of all the big players to varying degrees, namingComcast, Time Warner, CenturyLink, and AT&T. Out of those, he said that 'AT&Tis the best behaved of the bunch.'" I was a U-Verse customer for 4 years and never had problems streaming YouTube videos. This isabsolutelyunacceptable that it is not working, and I really hope that it isn't because Cox is trying to get payments for upgrading their equipment. Considering the fact that I'm waiting on a proposal for fiber service at my work from Cox, I find this very disappointing and I would love some answers, especially after taking a look at the article on this. I would like to know if Cox participates in Google's Peering or Caching programs. https://peering.google.com/about/17KViews0likes37CommentsArris SB6190 Cable Modem - RCS Partial Service and SYNC Time Sync Failure (100% Packet Loss)
I've gone through 3 cable modems, 3 wireless routers, and a handful of ethernet cables thinking it was a problem with my hardware. I've blocked every other device on the network for troubleshooting this. It's just my PC on it, hardwired in. The internet works without issues for about 90-120seconds at a time, then there's a 30 second period where I get 100% packet loss on everything. I can't get on any websites, I get disconnected from any games I'm running, etc. Then after 30 seconds, everything reconnects okay. I've rebooted all of my devices three times. I've called Cox and they said everything is testing fine. There's no Cox maintenance in the area and no outages. No construction in the vicinity. Is there anything I could do to diagnose this? Can I buy anything to test the coax drop in the wall or something? https://www.docdroid.net/tJH6C5a/event-log.pdf.htmlscreenshots of the Event Log from the modem page https://www.docdroid.net/RFmVJY2/status.pdf.htmlscreenshots of the Status page but I don't know what any of this means12KViews0likes11CommentsWhat's the reason for packet burst?
I've been reading a lot on packet burst for games. I ruled out my system being an issue as its up-to-date and high spec(x570 mobo, 2080 super, amd 5800x, 3600mhz ram) and its either the panoramic router provided by cox(something to do with the integrated QoS not being very good) or the ISP itself. Here is a ping plot showing how bad its been for me. It ** because I'm paying so much and for what? I upgraded to the 500 mbs ($120 total bill) only to suffer lag, packet burst/loss, and frustration. Is there not one person who can help?https://imgur.com/a/rO0khI61.2KViews0likes0Comments
