Data Usage Discrepancy
With the current policy of data caps I decided to track my usage at the router level. I just checked my cox account and from start of my billing cycle to yesterday (6-26-17 thru 7-11-17) states I have used 205 GB. When I check my router Netgear r7000 that I started tracking a day before my billing cycle to today (6-25-17 thru 7-12-17) states I used only 187GB. That is a discrepancy of 18GB! I would not care normally but since it is now policy to charge if and when we go over 1TB, this phantom data can be a means to charge overages. I highly disagree with any data caps in principle and function but if you choose to institute a cap then I expect it to be accurate. I want to know what Cox's stance on the accuracy on the data meter and discrepancies when I track my own. I would attach screen captures but your forum is too lackluster to properly insert. This is just a personal comment, data caps and penalties was a terrible idea and is the first time I am truly unhappy with my service and will be reviewing other service options.20KViews0likes44CommentsWarning about $5 Tier Upgrade Promo
I'm not the first to write about this... I read another post of a complaint from another customer who was swindled by a Cox upgrade offer. This is clearly written intentionally deceptive. I was offered (in big bold letters) " FREE" tier upgrade from essential to preferred service. It even explicitly stated $0.00 upfront and $0.00 /month ! This offer and order confirmation number appeared in my account but has since been removed. When I call in to confirm the status of the free upgrade, no one knows what I'm talking about, and instead want me to upgrade from paying $35/mo to $52/mo "...this is a great deal", I'm told. I never intended to upgrade in the first place, until this offer appeared on my screen. I thought, after reading the confusing fine print, that "the catch" (because there is always a catch) was that instead of "FREE" as it appeared to be, the increase would cost me $5/mo in additional fees.... $5 DOES NOT EQUAL FREE, By the way. But i figured, okay why not? $5 extra for increase from 5mbps to 25mbps was worth it. BUT NOOO, it aparently means something alltogether different. The cost of the upgrade is actually to pay an increased rate of $50/month (not actually a deal, this is what they already offer on their site to anyone) But instead of charging me $15 extra to open the bandwidth (which I'm sure is just a click of a button) they will only charge me $5 extra to increase my speed and my rate! There is a reason why we switched from COX to DirecTV/AT&T Uverse... unfortunately, I'll have to deal with these deceptive games as UVerse speeds in my area are capped at less than 3mbps (That's another whole story ... they were willing to charge me for 12mbps until i caught on that the distance from our house to their station was too far to reach those speeds) Cox is not "your friend in the digital age" they are the lesser of two evils. They can be allied with to get the internet you want because you have no other choice... but as long as you know what kind of scheming you're getting yourself into.15KViews0likes3CommentsNode Split progress inquiry.

Hello Cox, I was in Europe when the double your speed program was announced and I was looking forward to the enhanced speed I will be getting upon my return. Its been a month now and I have been on the phone and chatted with the hepdesk dozen times about not getting the 50mbps I am currently paying for. Yes, I got 109mbps Friday morning at 6 am but most times during the day I barely touch 40 mbps. It is Sunday, 10 am in Phoenix, AZ and my speedtest returned an inferior result of 36 mbps download when actually I am paying for 50. Why are you guys advertising Doubled Speeds if your network can't handle what people are paying for? All the helpdesk does is reset my modem from a remote location which doesn't fix squat... The problem is the high volume of subscribers on an inferior network... DOCSIS 3 modem is just fine and doing it's best to serve me well. It was connected without a router when I performed the test so NO, the router did not play any fault at all. Appreciate your time, but maybe it's time COX step up and apologize to the masses. Sincerely, Matyoka Phoenix, Arizona7.1KViews0likes13CommentsConstant "DNS Server Probe Finished NO INTERNET"
For the last month or so, We constantly get dropped from service. Sometimes it'll happen multiple times in a row. Either kicked off of a site, or interrupted streaming from Netflix or kicked out of game sessions or downloads being interrupted. I have reset the modem and am going to get my router and devices onto another DNS server if necessary, but I'd like to see if there is anything wrong on the company's end. As I type this message, the connection has dropped AGAIN. This is truly the most agitating time I've had with the internet since the dial-up days. Please help3.6KViews0likes5CommentsLousy support
I have been a Cox customer (phone, TV, Internet) for 13 years and until recently have been thrilled with COX support. For the last almost 3 months I have been having horrendous email issues. I have multiple calls in, have spoken to at least a dozen techs and the problem STILL isn't fixed. What I have been told over and over and over ad infinitum is that the problem will be fixed in 24-48 hours so now after roughly 2200 hours I can't send a message reliably, or receive one without having to go to webmail which has started to be ridiculously slow. I am a consultant and I live on email, and this situation is costing me money, not including the 10s of THOUSANDS of dollars I have paid to Cox. What has been suggested is that I; A. Do all my email correspondence on Webmail B. Buy a different machine (I am on an iMac running Yosemite) C. Wait 24-48 hours for it to be fixed (NOT!!!!!) Point A would require that I somehow setup the forty or so mailboxes and dozens of rules I have created over the years to Webmail where I would be exposing my emails to web operations which are OH SO SECURE (?!?!?!?!) Point B Buy a Windows machine. I would rather rub shards of glass in my eyes! After 35 years in the IT world as an Engineer/Team Lead in testing, development and support for small companies like AT&T, Lucent, Bell Labs, Merck, CBS, HBO, J.P. Morgan, etc., etc. I no longer have the patience or the cast iron stomach to deal with windows. To Windows folks, if you blast me it goes right to the trash. I don't even read it. Besides I don't have the cash to replace machines every 2 years to support a bloated OS. Point C YEAH, RIGHT! Yes this a major flaming post after 3 months of the issue not being fixed. Oh yeah; specifics: iMac Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.06gHz 12G of RAM Yosemite 10.10.3 Apple EmailVersion 8.2 (2098) Sometimes I get email the rest of the time I get the can't connect, server is offline dialog. Same thing with sending although a lot more often. I have tried everything that Cox Tech support has asked (except buying a machine) meticulously. Been told more than once, usually at Level 2 support that Cox knows about the issue and it is on THEIR end, not the Mac. Anyone else seeing this? Sorry for the tone of this post but as I said it's frustrating as ***!! jb ps My wife has a Mac Mini less than a year old and it has never connected to Cox but she's fine with Webmail.3.3KViews0likes6Comments82 year old mother charged for modem after turning it in a year ago
My 82-year-old mother had a "Mystery Charge" on her bill a month ago. She called Cox Billing Support, which is quite a time commitment, and was told by Kyle he was removing the charge from her account, gave her a confirmation number, and told her the next bill would show that all she owed Cox was her monthly charge. Next bill comes, and it says she has a past due on the "Mystery Charge". So today, we call Cox together. Now the charge is for a modem we turned in a year ago when we switched her to Panoramic Wi-Fi. We explained that we did not have the Cisco telephone modem as we turned it in when she began renting the Panaromic Wi-fi. After trying to get the gal to understand that the Panaramic Wi-Fi served as a telephone modem, she told me "you have the Cisco modem, I can see that it's on now." It wasn't , it isn't. Checked every cox plug in in the house. Not suprisingly, we did not have two modems connect to the cox service. I was explaining this and was disconnected. Called back. I asked the new Customer Service rep if she could see a Cisco modem live on the system from my Mom's residence. No. So I explained that we had a confirmation number saying this charge was being removed from the system. Suggested they pull up the recording of the conversation because they had "no record" of the credit. No can do. So now she said we needed to return the modem. I again stated that the modem was returned to the local store when we picked-up the Panoramic modem. Do you have the 1 inch x 1 inch receipt a year later? No. Who keeps these tiny scraps of paper. I asked if Cox showed my mom still having the modem, why they didn't contact us before now. No answer. I explained there was no reason for us to keep the modem. They have no value. But, I was told that without the 1 inch x 1 inch receipt there was nothing they could do for a 15-year-plus customer. So I asked when my Mom asked for her phone service to be switched from a land line to digital service, because she didn't. Cox forced her to switch to digital. Knowing she hadn't request the switch, I asked if I could get a copy of my mom's request that they install a modem. Said they couldn't. So I asked for a copy of what she signed saying she had received the modem. Said they couldn't. So I said then what proof do you have that she ever had the modem. And then I said, you know what, I'm going to trust you and believe that at one point this modem was in the house. Why can't you believe me when I assure you that the modem was returned? The modem has no value to my mother. I don't even think Cox still uses this modem. Neverthless, my mother has spent days looking for it despite the fact that I confirmed with her that she did indeed return it - I was with her. Thank you Cox for hassaling my elderly mother and sending her to bed with tears on multiple occasions.Thank you for charging my mother $122 for a modem that sells for $20. Thank you for charging a customer for outdated hardware that you will not use. Thank you for holding your customer responsible for bad record keeping. Thank you for neglecting to add equipment check-out and returns on your monthly bills so that customers have some way of knowing your service team neglected to enter the return or that record did not transfer to your master data system. Thank you for expecting your customers to hold on to 1" x 1" receipts to the end of time. Thank you.3.2KViews0likes3CommentsUnexplained Sudden Seriously High Data Usage
Right about the same time I received a letter from Cox indicating the 1TB data cap, my daily data usage suddenly skyrocketed from about 5G per day for the past year, to 40-70G per day! We haven't changed any habits or added any devices or people. We don't live close enough for any neighbors to scam off our wifi .Cox support can't help me, but I'm about to be charged $20 PER DAY for the next 9 days of my billing cycle unless I shut everything off completely (since we have NO IDEA WHERE ON EARTH we could be using that much data. Its borderline impossible. I would have to stream 24 hours straight of HD Netflix to use 70G! I feel like Cox is sandbagging the data tracker. The timing is pretty convenient !3KViews0likes3CommentsE-Cigarette Survey Offer
After completing the Cox Communications Survey I opted for the E-Cigarette Starter Kit trial offer for $3.95. Within two weeks they charged my credit card for $99.99 as they stated that was per their agreement. I had specifically informed this company via phone as their e-mail stated that I did not want any additional product 10 days prior to the charge. Fortunately I kept notes but I have had to cancel that credit card and after talking again to their Customer Service Department, they are not refunding $50.00 of the $99.99 charge. Has any one else had similar problems with this company (http://ecigsbrand.com/)? They have clearly violated the EFT Act and I am sure I am not the only victim. As a Cox Communications supported/recommended vendor, I expected much more.2.9KViews0likes4Comments
