Download speed consistently slower than upload speed
I have been getting download speeds about two thirds of my upload speeds recently. I thought it might be due to an old out of date modem i had, so I updated the modem to the new-ish motorola SBG6782. Resulting in the same download slower than upload ( as measured on coxs speed test and others ). Some forum surfing showed that there may be a "service code" that needs to be set from somebody from cox when a modem gets changed? Also, coxs initial web intercept / new modem registration screen doesn't recognize the SBG6782 even though it is on the compatible modems list. ( I used my correct serial and hfc mac numbers, but had to tell the system it was a SB6141 to get connectivity. Any mods able to do a line check, or send one of these codes down the line?18KViews0likes11CommentsDPC3825 in Bridge Mode
I would like to set the DPC3825 that I purchased from Cox into Bridge Mode. Currently, I cannot do so in the admin pages of the modem. Please tell me how I can get that done. In addition, after setting the modem to bridge mode, do I need to register my router's MAC address with you guys in order to connect to the Net? Thank you.17KViews0likes10CommentsTransfer account
I am moving to Texas where I don't plan on having Cox. I want to transfer the account I have in my name to my roommate (we share it anyway), however, I don't have a phone. How can I get this done? Or shall I just cancel the account and let him start a new one? I don't want him to have to pay that start-up cost when it's already working.10KViews0likes3Commentsis it possible to change the wifi channel on my panoramic wifi to one that is less crowded?
Hello, I'm reaching out to ask how I can change the wifi channel used by my panoramic gateway/router. I have been having a lot of internet stuttering and lag recently. I thought the problem might resolve itself after the scheduled outage for system work on 3/15/2022. it didn't, so i changed my plan to a higher tier thinking there were more neighbors paying more, and i was getting slower speeds to keep bandwidth available. that didn't change anything either. After doing more homework I was led to look at the channel my hardware uses for wifi. This seems like a likely cause for the problem. I am on a channel with 15 other users that show a strong connection. there are 5ghz that are unused and available. i found that i can get to an older java interface through a browser by pointing it to the gateway, but that app says channels are automaticallycontrolled. any advice would be appreciated. regards, chris9.7KViews0likes9CommentsMy cable modem resets itself when downloading.
My cable modem seems to be resetting itself whenever I'm downloading something. Oddly this usually doesn't happen when playing games online, only when downloading games from Steam or downloading large amounts of data. I went to 192.168.100.1 and this is what it currently says: Frequency 843000000 Hz Signal To Noise Ratio 36.5 dB Power Level -0.4 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading Upstream Value Channel ID 2 Frequency 29600000 Hz Power 43.2 dBmV This is after it rebooted. I tried calling Cox and the lady that I talked to insisted that it was a problem with my router and told me to power cycle the equipment and then everything would be fine. Well, it isn't, so now hopefully this forum can provide some insight.6KViews0likes5CommentsInternet Connection Dropping Multiple Times per Day
Issue: Modem loses connection to the internet. Details: For the last two weeks, I have been losing connection to the internet almost daily. This occurs at random times. It has happened three times in one day, and has skipped a day. Resetting the modem always fixes the issue temporarily. I am on a wired connection. I have tested (with a cable tester) and switch the Ethernet cables used. When plugged directly into the modem, this issue still persists, eliminating the router as the point of failure. This also affects multiple computers and devices in the house. Troubleshooting thus far: First technician came out on Monday, February 3 rd . After testing the connection inside and outside the house, he determined that the issue was with the drop to the house. This was replaced. The technician also removed an amplifier and replaced the splitter that is in use. We only have one TV and a cable modem hooked up. Thus a two way splitter. When the issue continued to occur, Cox sent out a supervisor technician on Saturday, February 8th. He tested all of the wires and runs in the house, as well as the ones out in the yard. He determined that the issue was with something further upstream and escalated the issue to the network technicians. Today alone, the connection has dropped four times over a six hour period. Cox now believes that the issue lies with my cable modem. Someone will be coming out tomorrow to test the out the connection with a different modem. Below I’ve included the logs from the modem. Does anything in the logs offer any insight into what the problem may be? Given how many support calls I’ve made and how many technicians have already been involved, I’d like to get some additional eyes on this issue. Please let me know if there are any questions you may have about the troubleshooting that has been done thus far. Lately our cable modem has been dropping out, where it had been working fine for a couple years. We tried to figure out what changed recently and we remembered that about the same time, a truck had taken out one of the poles down the street and a Cox crew was fixing/replacing things. Our neighborhood has wires underground, but the wires up the street apparently are on the poles. So, when they fixed the wires, could they have screwed up the signal strength somehow? Using Motorola Surfboard SB5101 cable modem with Apple Airport Extreme wireless router. Like I mentioned before, everything's been working fine until about the timeframe of those repairs. Edit: forgot to mention that mine is connected directly to the router (i.e., not using wireless), while the other two computers (and other equipment) use the wireless. Also, I can see the cable modem LEDs all go off, as in restarting, when we lose connection.5.8KViews0likes11CommentsDIY: How to automatically restore a lost cable modem internet connection.
"After many visits, the cable company technician gave me his cell phone number as he left my house and said to call if anything changed. My problem with intermittent loss of internet connectivity (termed "Modem Flap" in the industry) could not be solved. I was trekking to a downstairs closet to manually power-cycle my cable modem once or twice daily and the process was getting old." This is the lead paragraph of an article I co-authored in MagPi. Feb, 2014, Issue 20. In it we describe using a RaspberryPi micro computer to sense the loss of my internet connection and then re-connect to the cable plant automatically without human intervention. The solution plays well here and may be useful elsewhere. If this sounds familiar, check out http//:www.themagpi.com for our solution. drjinsb4.3KViews0likes8Comments
