Upgraded to a Panoramic wifi gateway modem, wifi works, voice does not
I had a modem for my Cox services (wifi and voice) for about 5 years. It died and I "upgraded" to a panoramic wifi gateway (model CGM4140COM). The only change was switching out the devices. When I try to use the phone, there is no dial tone. I checked all the physical connections, the cord from the phone to TEL 1 port, the wifiworks, but the voice service with my phone does not work. I can view the missed calls online in my account data though. I reviewed the troubleshooting steps listed online and used the online assistant, to no avail. They scheduled a tech to check it out, but I'd prefer to fix it before that occurs. Any ideas on what it could be?1.2KViews0likes1CommentTold Digital Phone was the same as our Analog and it wont go out during outages / storms
On a Friday our analog telephone stopped working and we called Tech support the following Monday. They told us that they would send someone out to "fix" our problem. The tech arrived and told us he was sent here because he needed to upgrade our phone line to digital. We weren't notified by Cox of this service interruption and we were really hesitant as our analog line NEVER went out during a storm. Two weeks later that changed and we didn't have any Emergency Access or regular phone access. Unreal how companies think this will improve service and causes their customers to be in more danger. What happens if a storm like Sandy hits our area...all mobile phones will be out in my area and we will be S.O.L. with this forced Digital service. Can we get our old copper telephone service back?11KViews0likes7CommentsCisco DPQ3212, 15 minutes to switch from Power to Battery Back-up
Yesterday, I had my ARRIS Telephone NIU swaped out to a Cisco DPQ3212 eMTA. I was just testing the eMTA's ability to maintain a dial tone, by unplugging it, and there was no dial tone, yes I have a good battery. I rely on my phone for my alarm system. I called Cox support and they said it takes 15 minutes to switch from power to battery before there is a dial tone again. Is this true? Cox knew I had an Alarm System and did the rewire for the line seizure to the Alarm panel. If it truly takes 15 minutes to get a dial tone back, the customer should definitely be informed of that prior to a conversion from NIU to eMTA. I was planning to switch my mother from Centurlylink to Cox HSI and Phone, but if her power goes out, and it does frequently, and she cannot use the phone for 15 minutes, she would loose her mind.11KViews0likes12CommentsNoise of voice ports of the Cisco DPC 3212
Recently, Cox sent me a Cisco DPC3212 to replace an existing cable modem. Prior to a swap, the phone service was as expected, crystal clear with no background noise. Added note, I took the opportunity to use the 3212 to replace both my separate voice and internet cable modems, providing 3.0 support. Good idea I thought. I have now tried three different Cox provided DPC3212 boxes and have the same problem. Once the box is configured and loaded, my voice port (l1/l2) has a distinct background noise you can hear on the phone. You might call it an oscillator type hmm (not a ground hum), but very noticeable. As soon as you break dial-tone, the sound is there, hanging out in the background, and is present on all calls. Doesn't sound like signal interference or another external noise. But just in case, I moved it around a bit, powered off everything in the room, and finally, took the box off the network and outside. No change. Running on battery power, I plugged a telset in and the noise is still there! Again, the modem is disconnected from everything, but still alive on battery power and now I'm standing at the COX service center with the same noise still coming out on my telephone. Yes, I've tried multiple telephones, same result. The service center folks are clueless and suggested another box swap. There is no question in my mind that the sound is being generated by the internal circuitry of the 3212, which in my experience, would point to either a configuration error (COX) or some type of bad/mis-installed or wrong part hardware problem (at Cisco, not COX). Anyone else had a similar problem? Again, having done/used VoIP for years, so I am expected an absolute silent phone line when i break dial-tone. Of course, maybe COX now sells noisy VoIP? Thanks..8.2KViews0likes9CommentsMy phone doesn't have a dial tone
