Extreme increase in data usage
Since I have renegotiated my price my internet data usage has spiked to more than 2X my previoususage. I added the additional 500GB of data so I wouldn’t go over and now this month I am on trend to use more than the 1TB + 500GB. I’ve changed my network password and name, even factory reset it. No new devices or software are being used. Has anybody else experienced this? I’ve spoken to tech support over the phone and they’ve been utterly useless and suggest I up my plan AGAIN to the unlimited. I feel like Cox is doing this to me on purpose!16KViews0likes12CommentsData Metering - What's going on?
One of the last things I want to be is an alarmist. I rarely post to forums in general, so I'll be gentle. Ha. I tried looking through the posts to see if there was already a thread on this subject, but didn't find one. Here goes: I didn't really pay attention to it before, but I logged in to the Cox website on unrelated business and took note of the flashy "Data Usage" meter. I drilled in to check it out, and there is a nice bar graph, showing my usage in Gb, by day, over the billing period. That's interesting, if not useful, data. However, as I looked closer, it seems like there is a "cap" indicated of how much data I am allowed and that got my attention. I've only been with Cox since March of this year, but this seems pretty new. So I read further, and I saw a lot of soft language in place around the "cap" idea - that's why I put it in quotes - as you indicate with great care that you aren't actually "capping" anything, and only in "extreme cases" would you throttle or actually cap data usage. I appreciate that language, certainly, but it's still concerning. Is there more going on? Why would you meter usage and present it this way at all if there was no intention of enforcing it at some point? Is this the beginning of the "Tier-ed Level" of services so popular with mobile devices? This is probably a bigger question than can be answered effectively here, but I didn't see a better way to give this feedback to your company. I work in technology and I see where the wind is blowing. Either one of two things is true here: 1) You have no intention of enforcing data usage caps and intended to present helpful information to users about trending for the account. In which case this data could have been presented much more effectively, without having to prescribe a usage cap that I assume is tied to whatever speed bundle you are subscribed t0 - in other words, that seems unlikely. 2) Enforced metering is coming and Cox wants everyone to have a little time to get used to the idea. (This options starts to sound like a conspiracy theory very quickly, so I'll stop there.) I am but a tiny voice in a loud wind, but I implore you to steer away from this path - even if the other kids are doing it - ESPECIALLY if the other kids are doing it. We pay enough for bandwidth, there is no need to charge customers for usage as well. I believe, certainly in my case, it will have a more negative effect on your business model than anticipated. Thank you for reading. (Ugh, not much of a question, I guess.)3KViews0likes1Comment
