Mini Box issue
Yesterday I upgraded from TV Starter to TV Economy, and my new channels came in immediately on my Advanced TV Receiver, but my mini box would still only access the channels from the Starter package (no CNN, Weather channel, etc). My friend has COX as well, and his mini box receives all his channels (excluding premiums, ONDemand, etc)... Am I doing something wrong? (note: I'm in the CT market if that matters)7.1KViews0likes13CommentsLess channels with a Mini Box - Have economy, but only get starter channels
We hooked up our mini boxes yesterday with a very disappointing surprise. We are missing a TON of channels that we had before the mini box. I was told by the Cox Solutions store that we would get all the channels we had and then some expansion of basic into the 100s. We have the economy pack, but are only getting the channels listed on your starter pack. If you are wondering the channels we are missing, again, we only have the starter when we pay for economy. This is on all 4 TVs that got mini boxes yesterday. I have already rescanned for channels and reset the mini box, check the connection to the wall, and made sure we were running off a splitter. My entire house was excited about the mini boxes and the HD local channels, but now I'm wondering if all the boxes need to go back?!? I'm getting notices about mini boxes. I have 3 TVs that will be affected. Here are my questions. 1. We the most basic TV service. The TV's without the Cox box get channels not available on the box. Will the "mini" boxes now limit channels, too? 2. How does channel changing and volume control work on the mini boxes? Will we have to use the huge Cox remote for both channel changing and volume, or need to use the TV remote for volume? 3. FIOS claimed no service without a box, too; but when you connect your digital TV directly it works. 4. Can we cancel our agreement early due to this change? It seems to be a huge game changer. I was wondering .... can I have 2 contour boxes (not the DVR kind), in the same house (thus replacing a mini-box)? example... 1 in living room and another in bedroom... Or better yet, if I found an extra contour box or contour 2 box (say at goodwill, ebay, amazon, etc...), would I be able to use it in another room instead of the mini-box as I have noticed that the contour box in our living room has nicer features such as more programming and voice remote than the basic remote and programming associated with the mini-box in my room. Any answers on this subject would be great... especially if I find out that I can simply replace the mini-box with say a "goodwill, ebay, amazon, etc.." contour and only pay $2.99 instead of whatever cox is charging to rent their contour receivers each month. Would there be any problems just plugging it in where the mini-box was??3.7KViews0likes7CommentsMini-Box Channel Limitations
Gainesville, Florida, customers are being swamped with notices to order mini-boxes in prep for "going all digital." The slick, colorful literature makes it seem like it might even be a good idea to trade in an HD receiver. However, customers are not being told that mini-boxes will only show Starter & Essential channels, and notoptional "paks" (movies, sports, etc.) or premium channels (HBO, Starz, etc). The only place where I saw this limitation mentioned was in fine-print at the bottom of the on-line channel list: *Channel not available on outlets connected via a mini box; requires either an Advanced TV Receiver, Contour Receiver or Cox-provided CableCard... If you have an HD-capable television connected via a mini box, you will be able to view an HD version of TV Starter and TV Essential channels [only]on the Standard Definition channel locations (Under 999), if available... [Emphasis added]. IMHO, the literature should be clearer about what channels the box will not show and its omission is misleading. <Just my 2 cents>3.4KViews0likes3Commentsmini box nightmare!
I have two mini boxes - one for my son's room and one for the living room that has internet as well on a split. We just got them last night and found out that I lost most of the channels I was receiving before I switched. Cox will jack you for getting the channels you lost when switching... charging you extra for the channels that you HAD before switching! SO BEWARE!!!! I've been a customer with Cox for over 5yrs and never had an issue like this! Talked to one tech about the problem and he said that I should be getting all the 'basic' channels (all 100+) that I did before - then wanted to charge me to get a tech out at my home to make sure it was installed properly...talked to another service rep this morning and she told me that I never had those channels to begin with...uh...yes, I did! I am NOT paying more for the channels I am NOT receiving! So Buyer BEWARE! This company will *** you dry for such little product! Switching to another cable/internet company ASAP!!!! oh - one more thing...they advertise more channels - yeah that's a laugh...more MUSIC channels .... who in their right mind "watches" music on their TV???? NO PICTURE! lmao Have a great weekend ya'll......switching out! PEACE!2.9KViews0likes3Comments
