Extreme increase in data usage
Since I have renegotiated my price my internet data usage has spiked to more than 2X my previoususage. I added the additional 500GB of data so I wouldn’t go over and now this month I am on trend to use more than the 1TB + 500GB. I’ve changed my network password and name, even factory reset it. No new devices or software are being used. Has anybody else experienced this? I’ve spoken to tech support over the phone and they’ve been utterly useless and suggest I up my plan AGAIN to the unlimited. I feel like Cox is doing this to me on purpose!16KViews0likes12CommentsUsage Meter reporting wrong
I've been monitoring my data usage meter over the past few weeks and the numbers aren't adding up. I have logging of incoming and outgoing WAN packets on my router and my totals are showing less than 5GB total for the past 4 days. The data meter from Cox, however, is showing that I used 10GB just on the 28th. First off, no it's not possible that the usage is that high as I'm not running torrents, infected with any viruses and my WiFi access point's security has not been compromised and I don't watch a lot of HD videos nor do I have netflix, hulu or any other services running.. There are no DMZ's in use and no services offered to the Internet. The only usage is basic email, web browsing and the occasional remote desktop to a work site using low quality video settings and I don't do file transfers with it. I do some game streaming every now and then but only for a few hours and I've done none since this new billing cycle. My last billing cycle had faulty reports as well and my meter was actually offline for 5 days with no updates. All of this traffic would have to pass through my router in any case and be logged. I've actually monitored my router as I did test procedures to verify it's operation. In short I don't want to be branded a bandwidth hog and be accused of overages unfairly. This data usage meter has a long history of inconsistencies from my research of other people's experiences over the past few years and if nothing else I want to be on record as contesting its accuracy.3.6KViews0likes5CommentsHigh data usage unexplained
We have been receiving emails from Cox saying we are over our limit of data which is more than 1000 GB per month and all used up in 2 weeks. We even received the notice and we were out of town for 2 weeks out of the billing cycle. During that cycle there was more than 100 GB used on certain days when no one was even home. I've changed my wifi password and my router password. I've had a computer tech come out and check our computers. I bought virus and malware software and downloaded it on my computer. We don't have any gamers or do anything to use anything close to that amount. I even bought a device to monitor our wifi on my phone. There is only one or two devices connected at a time. I have called Cox 3 times and there is still no resolution to this. Other than cancelling my Cox account I don't know what else to do.1.8KViews0likes1CommentOverage Charges
Dear Cox, I just wanted to thank you for this warm and classy notice to your subscribers. Thank You! We’ve got you covered. Beginning March 16, 2020 through May 15, 2020 data overage charges will be paused. Customers with Unlimited or 500GB data add-on plans will receive credits for their add-on plan for two bills. During this time we have suspended sales of our data plans. We want to help make sure you have the resources you need to remain productive during the coronavirus work and school closures.1KViews0likes2CommentsHelp signing up with AT&T?
Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with information about how to sign up with AT&T?Maybe some recommended plans or packages? COX recently implemented a rather horrid DATA CAP without any overage protection, or ability to upgrade. Apparently AT&T is exactly the same here, but I might as well go with the MONOPOLY that I wasn't content accepting until they randomly decided to change the rules and Nickle & Dime to death like the other one. Might as well give the other bully a chance. At least while I keep praying for Google Fiber803Views0likes0CommentsWhat is this data **
I just got cox cable recently... when getting the internet 150 mpg and paying 75.00 ish a month. I thought that was flat rate but I guess data is in the mix now and overage... sounds like an old school cell phone plan to me. Since when do we pay for data when your only using WiFi. I’m not using cable or phone just WiFi. So I’m upset because my 75 bill is now going to be more than expected. And then I go to the dam “support” team just so they can up sells the add on’s. Who pays 150.00 for JUST internet. It’s stupid. I’d probably feel a little more calm if the “support” team was ever personable but they are not. Just completely scripted. Doesn’t matter how many phone calls I’ve had. Cox cable... FYI we want people to really be nice and talk to us like they understand and recommend best fits for us clients who are upset with your service.723Views0likes2Comments
