Not receiving near Gigablast Speeds
Hi, So this may have been posted elsewhere, but I'm definitely having speed issues with Cox Gigablast in my area. I am using DOCSIS 3.1, not Fiber. I am currently using the Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 and the Motorola MR1900 AC Router setup. I have had two techs come out. The first was unhelpful, and just said there were disruptions in the lines, and he would create a ticket for it. I then called again a few weeks later to have a lead technician come out and check things out. When he hooked up the test machine direct to my router, he was able to achieve 1.1gbps download and 38mbps upload, which is what I would expect. But when I hookup up my laptop in the same scenario, which has a Killer wireless Gigabit Port capable of 940mbps, I max out at 477mbps download, and 32mbps upload. And those results were intermittent. Sometimes it would be 84mbps, other times it would be 300mbps. But I am never able to achieve speeds even close to 1gbps. His results were all consistent, except one time when it came back with roughly 200mps. And this has all been direct wired. I have been testing all of this on the 5ghz network as well. Mentioning wireless, the fastest I ever achieved is 360mbps download and 32mbps upload. Then it would drop all the way down to 17mbps download sometimes. But uploads are always consistent. Consistently at this point I haven't seen about 200mbps download from any device over WiFi I'm extremely frustrated at this point, as it seems when the technician was able to connect his device, he could receive the speeds I am expecting, yet when I hooked up my brand new laptop, I don't even receive half of that. I am currently working with Motorola to see if there is a problem with the router and/or modem, but everything seems to be in order (Channels etc). Its just odd that the tech could receive the gigabit speeds when direct wiring his machine, and I can't with mine. I can provides captures of speed tests run and channel settings. I'm just extremely frustrated. Does anyone have any recommendations for the router and/or modem setup? Am I missing something? Oh, and ever since I changed to Gigablast, it constantly says on my account "Service Interrupted" by my Internet package settings on Cox.com. When I asked Cox about this a week ago, the mentioned its because site maintenance was being done, but its still there. I couldn't see it being my personal equipment: 2017 Razer Blade Pro and 2017 Macbook Pro, both of which are 802.11AC iPhone X Game Consoles25KViews0likes6CommentsSlow real time upload speed - conflicting speed test results
I'm experiencing slow real time upload speeds. The speed test on Cox website have conflicting results. I've had 8 techs out to my house over the last 4 months and the issue has not been resolved. I am experiencing the same exact issues as usernoah82. We are both in Arizona. Okay, its Saturday, lots of people at home on the internet... Cox throttles back the speed? How about throttling back to cost too? Cox is capable of providing very high broadband speeds but when you try to reach someone you MIGHT get an automated voice. But if you want to buy a service or spend more money; you instantly get a real live PERSON. Just give us what we paid for HIGH SPEED INTERNET. Good thing cars don't run like this. I ran a few speed tests tonight and have found extreme variations in my download speeds. The only place I was able to get the "correct" speed was on the Cox speed test which runs only on the Cox network. Going outside of that network means lower speeds. The other issue I have has been with Hulu. EVERY time I try to watch something on Hulu I end up getting an error stating the network connection was lost. I don't get this type of error with Netflix or Youtube so I have suspicions that Cox is throttling me on Hulu. These tests show that I am not getting the 50Mbps that I am paying for. I have worked for an ISP in the past so I actually do have half a clue here. I ran these tests on my home PC which is connected directly to my modem via an ethernet cable. I realize that the servers these tests were run on could have other traffic at the same time I was conducting my speed tests however it's pretty clear that whenever I connect to a website outside of the Cox network, I do not get the 50Mbps connection. I have no firewall running, my computer is connected directly to my modem (so no wireless is involved here), I am running Windows 7, I have no viruses or malware.....Here are my current modem signals....5.2KViews0likes4CommentsSpeed Test to Cox Servers Around the Country - Consistently Inconsistent
Our church has been Live Streaming for over a year. We have upgraded to 200 x 20 Mbps service, but when I run the Cox Speed test to our Cox local server (Norfolk, VA), it shows we are getting about 185 - 195 x <10 Mbps. Upload is our concern for our Live Streaming. The confusing issue is when I run the speed test to other Cox servers, i.e., Providence (RI), Atlanta, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, or Las Vegas, I get comparable download speeds, but also the full 20 Mbps upload. That tells me the problem is not our internal church network or equipment. Interestingly, running the Cox test against Cox servers in Fairfax (VA), Oklahoma City, Omaha, Wichita, Phoenix, San Diego, and Orange Country (CA), again gives me comparable download speeds, but just half +/- on the upload. The Cox technicians who have been out say their meter shows 200 x 20 Mbps at the modem, but they can't explain why all Cox servers show appropriate downloads while some are showing uploads at very slow speeds. And it is consistently the same servers which are high and which are low. The techs are blaming the Cox sped test. This just seems odd. Does anyone have any ideas? And how do we know what is right? Or how do we get it fixed? TIA Bill4.1KViews1like6CommentsTwo Cox Speed Test Sites - What Are the Differences? Why Different Results?
I use both of the Cox internet speed test sites (see below). Whenever a test on each site is done within a minute of each other, both sites REGULARLY show immense differences between reported download speeds, usually a 70-125Mbps difference. The first site listed below always reports the slower speed. And get this, I just now did another test: the first site reported 70Mbps download and the second site reported 371Mbps download. Both appear to use test servers near me.I think the first site is HTML5 based because no plugin is required, and I know the second one is flash based. QUESTION: What are the differences between the two sites? Which one would be considered most accurate? Why? Thanks in advance for your answer. I just signed up for Preferred internet and expect to see 25 x 5. My cable gateway is DN3000N and I am hooked up with the ethernet cable. Using the cox speed test I usually get 13 x 7.68. using speedtest.net I get 29/30 X 6.79/7.65. which speed test is true?? I have attemped to turn off my wifi on the router by pressing and holding the wifi switch 2 to 5 sec. but I still have the wifi green lite on. there is NO light on the ethernet connection, so I thought I'm being automatically hooked to wifi so I disconnected the ethernet cable and I lost signal. Has any one else had thes problems?Solved3KViews0likes5CommentsTrying to find a functioning Cox Speed Test site
Cox Ultimate customer here. While aware that there are at least two Cox internet speed test sites, one which requires Flash (Flash? Really? Still?) and one that doesn't (and where I have in the past actually been able to utilize), I was reminded that if it's happening to me it's no doubt happening to others. While logged on the the non-Flash site https://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/speedtest.html the window indicates My Internet Plan is Cox Internet Ultimate with 300/30 down/up parameters. A red link labeled Start Speed Test is clearly visible. However, clicking on that red rectangle produces the disconcerting error message: "Note: This tool is intended to test Internet speeds from Cox Networks". In other words, nada. Bupkis. Zilch. What's the deal? Please don't attempt to explain this away as merely crummy timing to start a test on my part. I've been experiencing snail pace connection speeds for the past few weeks so I upgraded to Gigablast after attempting some troubleshooting steps. (troubleshooting steps taken: power cycled all devices in home, switched from cox provided modem/router combo to my personal modem and router, power cycled devices a second time.) After attempting all the basic troubleshooting steps and even upgrading to Gigablast my connection speed got worse. I originally had the internet only plan beneath the Gigablast plan and was getting an average of 30 MBPS download and 20 MBPS upload, after the upgrade my the results were cut in half. With Gigablast I am currently getting 10-15 MBPS download and 10 MBPS upload. Someone please help, I've spoken to 4 separate supposed "Tech Support Agents" and no one has done a single thing to help. They all just keep taking me through the same basic elementary troubleshooting steps that I have been doing for the past few weeks.2.1KViews1like6Comments
