3 days of no internet

For 2 days, the internet was spotty. It was off. It was on. Then there was maintenance. Once that was over, there was an unplanned outage. This happened for two days. Now it's day 3 and the modem just blinks orange and I'm not getting any connection. I put in a request to update our modem last week and Cox sent one out. Now the modem has also started getting warmer than usual, even though it's in a well ventilated room. What is going on?
