Internet down in my neighborhood going on 3 days

It's day 3 of internet being unavailable in my area. Is there any situation that would justify this? I've seen people complaining about 2 hour outages, but this is something else entirely.

By the way, the website says there are no outages in my area, but the Android app says there is. 

Whatever. I can ping the gateway router (Customer Edge) and get a reply. However, I cannot ping the COX DNS server (or any other DNS, for example, google's) and get a reply. So I definitely do not have service.

I signed up for text updates, but haven't received any in hours and hours (except for the "thank you for signing up for text updates" message).

It would be nice to have some additional information about what is going on, and an honest estimate for how much longer I'll be out of service.
