No cable during power outage when running a generator

Any help would be very appreciated!!! This is the second time that I've lost power and have run a generator that powers up the entire house, however the cable boxes just stay at 5:00 and doesn't change or allow me to get any channels. I know plenty of people who also have generators and they can still watch cable TV without any issues. There were no cable outage reported either. Any idea why this is happening please send any information that may help! Once again I would appreciate any help resolving this issue.
