Response time of Contour 2 box?

I'm curious what the normal response time to pushing buttons on the remote.  For example, when viewing the guide and you press page down, how long should it take to populate the next page? Backgrou...

Hi Tomb993, the Contour 2 remote utilizes both RF (radio frequency) and IR (infrared). The content you have on the DVR is stored on the hard drive itself. The Contour 2 remote should not have any type of delay at all, especially the type of delay you are describing. I recommend making sure there are no loose or damaged connections in the home. This includes any splitters you may have as well. Please also change the batteries and reprogram the remote to the receiver. Here are instructions on pairing the remote:

Thanks Kevin, but that doesn't really answer my question.  The remote communicates with the DVR via RF and IR, but that's not my question.  I see the green light flash on the DVR when I push a button, that indicates the DVR has received the request from the remote.  My question is, does it process this request internally and immediatly?  I heard that the request is send down the line to Cox servers, which then send it back to the DVR for processing.  For example, if I press pause while watching a recorded program, the green light flashes indicating the DVR has received the request, but then the "pause" request is sent to Cox's servers which then send the actual instructions for carrying out the pause action to the DVR, and the recording gets paused.

    Hi Tomb993, When Contour 2 boxes are slow to respond to remote commands, it typically means there’s some kind of signal issue at hand. Distance and line of sight to the receiver can also be a problem, as well as defective remotes, and low batteries. However, signal levels are usually the primary factor. We recommend you reach out to us for further troubleshooting assistance. -Kevin

      Thanks Kevin.  Since low signal is the primary cause, this makes me think that yes, when I push a button on the remote it is not handled immediately by the DVR.  It is sent to Cox, which then sends a response, and the DVR responds to that response.

      Is it possible that this can be worse depending on time of day?  Like in the evenings when more people are watching TV and using the internet?  Or is that just my imagination?

        It is indeed possible to experience more of these issues at night or when it rains, for instance. The reason coaxial cables are thick is to help prevent electromagnetic interference from entering the lines. For example, if a cable line outside is damaged (even slightly), temperature fluctuations and moisture can leak into the line (ingress). Once this happens, it can cause pixelation, tiling, packet loss, and a range of other issues.

        I am not stating that this is your particular case, as a technician would need to go out to determine the cause of the Contour remote issues. -Kevin M. Cox Support Forum Moderator
