TV doesn't recognize Contour 2 MINIBOX

Why does the contour MiniBox (MPXID01)  only connect to my TV via coax and not by HDMI? my LG TV claims it is HD 1080p/1080i

I cannot find anywhere on cox.com that explains minimum TV compatibility requirements for contour 2.

    Are you able to connect any other device to the TV using HDMI? If you are, do you get a picture? If you aren't able to connect with the HDMI, you can use component cables to display the HD picture.
