Separate Phone and Internet Modems
I am planning to upgrade to Gigablast internet, which means I'd need to upgrade from my DPQ3212 modem to one with DOCSIS 3.1. However, I have a phone line and it is my understanding that if I am to buy my own modem, I'd still have to use the one provided by Cox for phone service, meaning I'd need 2 separate modems, one for internet and one for telephone service. If this is correct, and I follow through with getting Gigablast and a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, what exactly would I need to do to set it up when it arrives? Would someone need to come to our house to set it up (are they even doing house visit right now?), would I need a coax cable splitter or could I use a different coax outlet in the house? I've looked into this quite a bit as gaming on my current plan has been quite frustrating, but I'm a bit confused about the details so any help is appreciated!14KViews0likes10CommentsCisco DPQ3212, 15 minutes to switch from Power to Battery Back-up
Yesterday, I had my ARRIS Telephone NIU swaped out to a Cisco DPQ3212 eMTA. I was just testing the eMTA's ability to maintain a dial tone, by unplugging it, and there was no dial tone, yes I have a good battery. I rely on my phone for my alarm system. I called Cox support and they said it takes 15 minutes to switch from power to battery before there is a dial tone again. Is this true? Cox knew I had an Alarm System and did the rewire for the line seizure to the Alarm panel. If it truly takes 15 minutes to get a dial tone back, the customer should definitely be informed of that prior to a conversion from NIU to eMTA. I was planning to switch my mother from Centurlylink to Cox HSI and Phone, but if her power goes out, and it does frequently, and she cannot use the phone for 15 minutes, she would loose her mind.11KViews0likes12CommentsTold Digital Phone was the same as our Analog and it wont go out during outages / storms
On a Friday our analog telephone stopped working and we called Tech support the following Monday. They told us that they would send someone out to "fix" our problem. The tech arrived and told us he was sent here because he needed to upgrade our phone line to digital. We weren't notified by Cox of this service interruption and we were really hesitant as our analog line NEVER went out during a storm. Two weeks later that changed and we didn't have any Emergency Access or regular phone access. Unreal how companies think this will improve service and causes their customers to be in more danger. What happens if a storm like Sandy hits our area...all mobile phones will be out in my area and we will be S.O.L. with this forced Digital service. Can we get our old copper telephone service back?11KViews0likes7CommentsPhone install help
I'm considering getting a cox phone line in addition to the cable and internet I currently have. Right now my cable modem is on my entertainment center, in the living room. I only have 2 phone jacks in my house - 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the master bedroom. What all has to be connected for a phone line?? I will be using this as a work line only to do inbound customer service calls. A corded phone is required, no cordless. So i will need to be within reasonable distance from the jacks. Any help?4.5KViews0likes1CommentMoving a phone from one room to another
I had a phone installed a year or more ago, at the time there was no charge to add this service, but when I contacted COX today, they informed me that they would charge $50.00 to move the phone from the room it is in now to another in the same house, same wiring, same TV, same internet...etc. What is so difficult about unscrewing a coax wire and screwing it into another room but for some reason, COX won't provide any service without charging ridiculous fees. It's literally a 5-10 minute job and I've managed to just get a coax extension, drill a hole and move it to the next room while it's still connected to the same outlet. The reasoning behind all these charges for doing something so simple is just another reason that COX is becoming the worst provider I've ever used. It's nothing but greed and the two words "Customer Service" don't exist at this company. Good luck to all who stay with this rip-off company. New Years resolution is to change providers ASAP.Solved4.5KViews0likes1CommentNIU for phone service
I recently had a new Coax line installed, and the field representative noticed that I still had a NIU that provided my phone service (I installed it myself when I worked for Cox). He stated that I'm going to need to upgrade soon, that Cox was trying to phase those out of their system. Who do I need to contact to have that happen?3.9KViews0likes1CommentLandline cuts in and out not solved
We havethe ARRIS modem setup where your phone directly plugs into the back. The past 7 month people calling my coxline line cant hear us because the phone cut in and out. Today we received a new ARRIS modem and it is installed correctly and the cordless phone still cut in and out. What should be my next step to check before purchasing a brand new cordless phone system, that may not even solve the problem????3.2KViews0likes5Comments
