smtp.cox.net outgoing server not working
I just transitioned my Cox email to Yahoo! and it seems to have worked. However, I use the Mail application on my MacBook Pro, and I can no longer send mail through any of my email addresses (Gmail, Yahoo). It seems as this transition screwed up my outgoing server settings. What should the incoming AND outgoing server settings be? Thanks so much!Solved332Views0likes8CommentsNot getting the speed I pay for!
I've had COX for about half a year and right off the bat I gotta say it was way too overpriced. But the price is not even the real issue. I pay for 1GB for download speed and 100mbps for upload, but when I run a speed test, I seem to only get about 1mbps for download speed. It's beyond ridiculous. Troubleshooting or resetting solves the issue for about 2 minutes, but then I'm right back to the problem. Every time I call for help, they can never seem to tell me what the problem is, even after sending a tech. As a casual gamer, I work all week and look forward to relaxing on the weekend and enjoying some games and entertainment online but this issue seems to peak when I want to enjoy some quality time at home. It sucks to know that when my monthly bill comes around, I'm being robbed every month from this company for not fulfilling the service I pay for. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?5Views0likes0CommentsCox Courtesy Credit for going over Data Allotment
On data meter page it says: ($) Courtesy credit: You have 1 courtesy credit to exceed monthly data usage without charges. Tooltip: Cox will waive overage charges for the first month you go over your data plan What does it entail? Does it only pay the first first $10 only? Or does it cover all of the overages for that cycle? So if I go over by 150GB, do I pay $0 or do I pay $20 ($10 free for the first overage, then pay rest)4Views0likes0CommentsMetairie Louisiana "intermittent interruptions"
Since late Thursday evening, Cox Internet has been down in Metairie Louisiana. As always crews are hard at work trying to solve the issue. It has now been 48 hours of constant downtime. Power is restored. Cell service was never out when not connected to wifi. Cox is still out. No estimated time to restore Internet service. Non-existent customer service. Quite the company you are running. Disgusted and looking at options now. Really have little choice.33Views1like6CommentsCocks can’t keep up with 4k videos on YouTube with 1GB download speed

After spending a good deal of time and effort trying to make Thunderbird get along with Yahoo, I finally figured it out. If you are reading this, you have probably already called Cox only to find out that they have washed their hands of the whole email thing and will only refer you to a phone number for Yahoo. And of course Yahoo is not set up to handle this, so you will wait in the phone queue for half of forever only to find out that they don't know how to set it up either. So in the hope that my experience may help some other poor slob, I present the below instructions, and I hope it helps. I am using the Thunderbird program to access emails on a Windows computer, however I suspect the settings will be the same for anyone using Thunderbird. First, to transfer the emails to Yahoo and establish a webmail account, follow the directions provided by Cox as regurgitated here: "Visit mail.yahoo.com/login and enter your complete cox.net email address, including the Cox.net suffix, as your username. Then enter your current Cox password, and accept the Yahoo Mail Terms of Service. Upon signing in, you’ll set up a new password for your new Yahoo account." Now log out of the Yahoo webmail and open Thunderbird. I have my email accounts and corresponding folders located in a column on the left of the page. Yours may be set up differently, but mine is the default and I will base detailed instructions on that. Go to the left column and click on the line that shows your complete cox email address. If you have multiple addresses, you will need to perform the following instructions for each of them. Now look to the top right of the new page and click on "account settings". At the bottom of the settings page is the line "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", and at the far right of that line is a box that says "Edit SMTP server"; click on it. A pop-up window will open, adjust the settings as shown below: Description: COX Server Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port: 465 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication method: OAuth2 User Name: your user name, duh click OK Now go back to the left hand column and click on "Server Settings". On this page the settings will be as follows: Server Name: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port: 993 Connection Security: SSL/TLS Authentication Method: OAuth2 Now close Thunderbird and reopen it. You will now be asked for a password for each of your email addresses. Use the new password that you used to set up the Yahoo webmail. Congratulations you have mail! If you want to use POP instead of IMAP I suggest you first set it up with IMAP and then go back and change the setting after you know it is working.2.7KViews3likes36CommentsCAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME
what a fricking nightmare... I have been battling with cox for five SIX days now trying to get someone to help me with getting my email working to where I can consistently send and receive messages. So I have been told that I cant use my outlook and I will have to use webmail until they transition to Yahoo. Next thing I know I cant even send and receive on webmail. Yet Cox wont take responsibility. They keep telling me to change my password yet Yahoo doesn't even recognize my email address. I had one of the 6 or 7 people at Cox I chatted with tell me I hadn't even transitioned yet and that I needed to keep using Webmail in the meantime. They helped me get my webmail to where I was receiving mail again but when I went to try to send, no luck sending. So I once again reached out to another Cox rep, they like most before HE said it was a Yahoo issue and I needed to get with Yahoo. HONESTLY I DON'T KNOW HOW YAHOO IS GOING TO HELP WITH AN EMAIL THEY DON'T EVEN RECOGNIZE. So, the only Yahoo phone number I could find amongst Cox support materials, that wasn't a premuim support $12.99/mo cost, was this phone number, 1-866-562-7450. GUESS WHAT - THIS NUMBER IS NO LONGER IN SERVICE!!! HOW THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE THIS WORK. I am in a semi rural area and my internet options are very limited AND COX KNOWS THIS. NO COMPETION IS HOW COX HAS GOTTEN BY WITH TREATING THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS FOR YEARS.50Views0likes1CommentMissing email after yahoo transition
I moved my primary account to yahoo when I got the time to move email. I had no issues. A few days later I got the time to move email then I moved my secondary cox account to yahoo email and now the last two days emails are there and then goes to January 2021. Everything in between is missing. Anyone else have this issue? If so, what was the fix? Thanks in advance Don.36Views0likes1CommentCox/Yahoo email conversion
My experience in the conversion has been a frustrating one. I followed all instructions but it did not work for me, apparently because i was using a Mac. Yahoo support was helpful and we figured it out. However, I get all my emails in Outlook and despite following all instructions on setting that up, i'm not getting the same emails over and over, after deleting them. Just this morning I deleted several emails and every time i refresh my outlook, they show up again. Any idea what is happening and how to solve it? thank you322Views0likes5CommentsMy Cox-->Yahoo-->Outlook journey
I see lots of posted problems with this email transition problem and I wrestled with it for a couple days. I had no problem setting moving Cox-->Yahoo and getting email on the Yahoo website but I wanted to use my desktop Outlook program as I always have. Trying to just change the incoming and outgoing servers in Outlook wasn't working - just gave an unhelpful failure response. Maybe this could work easily if you use the "trick" I mention below. This morning I called Cox support, was on hold for ~15min before reaching a quite helpful woman who almost succeeded. Key things from her: in Outlook: File-->account settings-->account settings-->remove existing account (this will "re-populate" from your working Yahoo account when your done), account settings-->new enter your email address (the one you just deleted) and a password. She said to use the Yahoo email PW which doesn't seem to make sense since you haven't pointed to the Yahoo server yet. But after the next error message you get to enter the server information (as widely disseminated this is imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com). We tried this many times (including reboots) but it never worked. Always got the error message. She kicked me "up" to a guy who knew less but told me to go to Yahoo support and gave me a phone #. Yahoo answered immediately, went into remote control of my computer and did the same steps but with one difference: they used a password generated for my Outlook by Yahoo. (This is commonly discussed in support forums and I'd already made one but hadn't used it here.) Anyway he deleted mine, made a new one, and used that PW when connecting to imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. That worked, that was the difference. If my first Cox support person had realized this we'd have saved a couple hours.64Views1like2CommentsGmail POP-ing cox.net worked, now with yahoo hosting it doesn't

After several times of telling them I could not make payments with my card because my card was hacked and somebody attempted to Bill me in North Carolina they still attempted to bill the card then said that due to failed payments I was unable to schedule payments then I then asked them if they would take a partial payment today to extend it for a week in a refused ask to speak with the manager and they refused. As a business owner that has to wait on his checks to come in the mail after completing a job you would think there would be an understanding that due to mail delivery delays you can't guarantee dates it will arrive but still trying I offered to pay over half of past due balance immediately if they could just postpone a week for my checks to have time to arrive and they refused respectfully as a business owner not being willing to work with your customers or even allow them to speak with a manager when requested is just bad business.43Views0likes1CommentYahoo Email Transition - Links & Resources

I did the yahoo transition for my mom's account and it was very simple on the iPhone. But why is it that we have to do a 25 step transition put together by some very thoughtful and helpful members here? Is it because cox or yahoo didn't dedicate enough resources to Mac Mail? I'm just trying to understand this part of it. It used to be that you'd just add the email, password, imap address etc, and all would be well.15Views0likes0CommentsWhy can't I port forward?
I have the PW7 Panoramic Gateway. I used to have PW6, and port forwarded with no issue, but then the router stopped working, so I had to get a replacement. Now, I just want to forward a single port - avery simple task and basic feature of any router. When I was first searching on where to find this option, I found a site that suggested going tohttps://wifi.cox.com/. But all this tells me to do is download the Cox WiFi app. Instead, I decided to try going to the settings in my browser, at 192.169.0.1. I can access the settings just fine, but when I click through to port forward, it tells me to download the Cox WiFi app. Fine, that's annoying, but I can do that. When I go to the app, I click wifi > view wifi equipment > advanced settings > port forwarding. Then it says "Something unexpected happened. Try again or come back later." I cannot get this message to go away. I have "tried again later" for the past two weeks. I have uninstalled and reinstalled four times. Nothing will get this page to load. Everything else on the app loads correctly, but not this one single page. I did customer live chat, and the person there, in the most robotic way possible, said port forwarding is not possible. That's simply ridiculous. So I went to complain on Twitter, and the Cox Twitter account told me to DM them. They said I CAN port forward, but for that support I needed to pay $10/month for "complete care" - no, absolutely not, I am not paying $10 to get someone else to tell me that I can't do something anymore. So then, I called the support line directly, and got to tier 2 support. They sympathized with me and said they have the same model Panoramic Gateway, and they were able to port forward just fine. It was the weekend so she put in a ticket and said it would be a few days before I heard back. Today (5 days later) I called because I hadn't heard anything back yet. The new tier 2 person was equally helpful and sympathetic, but they said the resolution on the ticket I had submitted was to tell me to go the website to access my router settings. Which, if you recall from above, tells me to go to the app. Which does not work. They said this is called a "do loop". They said they can't do much else for me, said it sounds like an issue with the app so the best they could offer was for me to wait for the app to update. Googling this issue has lead me to threads similar to this for years now. So I am not hopeful for any quick resolution here. I am aware I can buy my own modem/router and forward my ports myself, however, the "plan" I'm currently on gives me this Panoramic Gateway for free, so I do not want to buy $100+ worth of equipment for access to a basic feature. So in conclusion: can someone please answer me this very simple question, speaking as a human person and not giving me another canned response: Is port forwarding actually still an option on Panoramic Gateways, and if so, why am I not able to? (If it's no longer an option - WHY NOT?)182Views0likes13CommentsCox Email Transition Link

My Internet has been down for five days now in Phoenix although my direct neighbor has Cox and hers is still up. They don’t have any timelines to fix it, but I work from home and my job depends on me having an Internet connection. I’m at the point now. I’m about to switch to Verizon because I just need any sort of Internet And five days is pretty excessive considering they usually get it back up within a couple of hours. I’m not sure what to do because I’ve enjoyed having Cox for 10+ years and really don’t want to switch, but I need Internet and I don’t seem to have any or timelines on when it will be up. Anyone have any suggestions? Customer support just says they don’t have any control over and they hope its up soon.30Views0likes4CommentsIncreasing frequency of internet outages (T3 timeouts)
I'm having ever more frequent internet drops over the last several weeks. It typically drops for only 1 to 10 minutes at a time. But happening more frequently of late. Sometimes it recovers on its own. Sometimes I need to reset the modem (Netgear CM1000v2). When I check the logs in my modem, the outages always seem to align with "T3 time-outs". My understanding is that this is indicative of some upstream interference, outside of my house. Perhaps stemming from an issue elsewhere in the neighborhood. I have read lots and lots of other accounts of people that experience this, and what seems like a very difficult issue to resolve. Pinpointing where in the system the issue is, source of noise/interference, etc. requiring more sr tech's to figure it out. I just spent the last 3 hours with a Cox live chat agent trying to express the issue. But only met with responses like "Thank you for staying connected". Or "I completely understand your concern. Thank you for reaching and letting us know about...". Clearly copy/paste responses the call center uses. Then asking me about other devices in my house, etc. I get it that Level 1 support is what it is. But when 20-30 minutes go by between each response, this is an unworkable path towards resolution. I've heard an informal FCC complaint is the only way to get any action. Is that really how the process works? I'm asking the community for a practical way to get support. The end of the last chat with the live agent ended with a presumptive "Just to recap, you messaged us today about your internet . I helped you with the internet . Your satisfaction means everything to us . Have we covered everything you wanted to discuss today?" Um...no.56Views0likes1CommentEmail transition forced upon us, is subjecting me to uninvited ads on the Yahoo mail app!

I can successfully send and receive from my first migrated account. Yahoo makes use of a one-time App password that is used in lieu of the usual email password. Does anyone know if this password is tied to a specific app? Mail on a laptop and desktop would use the same password. Or is it tied to a specific email? Bob@cox.net in Mail anywhere would use the same password. Or is it a combination of the two. Yahoo generates the pw and tells you you don't have to remember it. So you're generating a new password every time you update the accounts on a new device? I'm just wondering how much of a PITA this is going to be?27Views0likes1Commentemail ownership

Internet Outages in Gonzales, La
Hi, this is my first post here. I’ve been struggling for the past 2 months with outage issues in Gonzales, La. and have nowhere else to turn. I work from home as a triage nurse and require direct line access to internet for my job. Cannot use hotspots. My problems first started with Cox contracting an outside company to rewire my apartment complex with fiber. I lost almost 4 days of work because of this. Then I discovered (after multiple service requests) that there was a bad wire to my building. That was supposedly fixed. Now I’ve had two days this week with “storm related outages” and i have not been able to work. I can’t speak to a representative/live agent because it’s a known outage. But I would just like to know what is going on and how long this repair is estimated to take. I could lose my job because of this.30Views0likes1CommentRecurring internet outages for OVER 4 WEEKS NOW
My home has been experiencing service outages every single night since 04/22. Every night, starting at 8PM lasting until 2AM. Why can’t yall notify us of these things? Because of the predictability it leads me to believe that there is major work or scheduled work being done affecting internet. My wife and I work a swing shift from home. It’s really hard to work from home WITHOUT INTERNET. I’ve chatted in, called, visited store fronts, I’ve exhausted every single option to try and figure out what is going on and what can be done and all I get is “we don’t know, eta is XX:XX, pay us more money and we can send a technician to check out your home, pay us even more money for a support plan” etc. Not a single person can give me a reason. If there is major work happening, replacing lines, installing fiber, something that’s taking so much time and what not THEN TELL US. We jump into our shifts every night not knowing what’s to come. We are in jeopardy of losing our jobs and all we can tell our employers is “the internet is down again, my shift is going to have to resume later, sometime” and business is business so they’re going to get to a point where they’re going to replace us because of this. BUT IF WE HAD A HEADS UP WE COULD PREPARE PROPERLY. And I’m still expected to pay for a service I can’t use? You’re out of your mind. But HEAVEN FORBID they help and cut out great portions of the bill to reflect the amount of internet we can use in a day while this is going on. I’ve tried to switch providers in the meantime and Cox has monopolized the entire area leaving us no other option. And then support has the audacity to tell us that it’s our equipment…..I have a masters in computer science, I know what I’m doing with my equipment. I’m not renting your equipment that will just experience the same thing. I WANT MY MONEY BACK OR FIX THE **bleep** OUTAGE. And if you can’t do that, then GIVE ME A HEADS UP OR A TIME FRAME FOR THE REPAIRS OR SOMETHING, WHY IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR? “Sometimes it isn’t best to provide all details of repairs and outages” WHAT A CROCK OF SH**. If you did I’d be able to modify my work. This has been the biggest joke of A MONTH I’ve ever experienced with ANY internet provider. And I have no choice but to use Cox. Anyways…..anybody else experience something similar?92Views3likes3CommentsInternet speed issues
Hello, I am not sure where to go with this question as I have exhausted many of the options. so putting this here for someone to potentially help pinpoint where the problem is. i have (had) the PW7 gateway setup with a deco mesh network for our home. The plan was 1G mbps. We noticed that internet speed on TV streaming and laptop(s) is very weak. However, the speed on the iphone (as measured by the ookla app) was really good. Same when u measure with the Cox app. called cox and they recommended to move to the pW8 model and the 2G plan. I did. i was suspicious that it was going to resolve the issue because the iPhones were always registering very good speed. if the router or the plan where the issues that would not cause the iPhone to be good and the computers and the TV to be bad. Because we were reading 800mbps on iphone vs 50mbps, i don’t think it is due to the wifi6 vs wifi5. I thought that it might be the computer and the Wi-Fi adapter so I tested multiple computers as well as a wired connection and in both tests the speed was not improved. I am baffled by how the iPhone can read a faster speed than the other other equipment in the house and I’m wondering where there is a the solution available to us. Has anybody experienced this issue before any help is appreciated25Views0likes0Comments- 45Views0likes2Comments
Desert internet
The repeated disconnects and quality of connection has been significantly reduced in the last six months. Connection is never stable and is terribly inconsistent. Paying premium for speed is irrelevant if it drops every 20 seconds. Chat outreach options are redundant. I've reset my router, device, and adapter multiple times today.63Views0likes3Comments- 19Views0likes1Comment
Cloudflare Tunnels on Cox
Switching from Windstream to Cox Fiber 2gb. I use cloudflare tunnels on my home lab server. This works fine over my Windstream connection. Nothing to configure on the router. When I plug the server into my Cox router, I'm only able to access it over local IP. Can't access it from the internet like I can over Windstream. Raised prices in my area with no alert
Hello! I am single man living in a 700 square foot 1 bedroom apartment and for some reason my internet bill is almost on par with most homes. I use only internet which was $49.99 a month for the past 2 years and I didn’t really think much of it. As of yesterday my bill now sits at $109.00 just for 4 of my devices to be connected. This is disgusting and greedy on cox part. People are already working their tails off to get by and to DOUBLE your price when nothing has changed for me other than more lag while I game, connection interruptions during meetings, the list could go on. Then on top of that you sent a text a day before my bill is due. No 2 weeks heads up, nothing in the mail, no emails. Charging over $100 for wifi is absurd and doing that knowing people have to use WI-FI to do remote work or any other daily activities is wrong. I see everywhere across the country, people unhappy with Cox and its sad to see that the consumers needs comes last in the eyes of big business. To then offer me “ other options” ( all of which stayed in the hundreds of dollars) is basically a spit in my face and i dont mind telling you people where to shove those offers. Just an overall greedy and price gouging company. I know its not the ground employees fault or anything like that. They’re not the problem. I am extremely infuriated in the lack of consistent service by this company. Also, I am disappointed in my own resistance towards leaving after so many years of subpar service. That will change now. We have been without Internet all day and this happens multiple times a month, even with a brand new router! As a business owner who relies on functional and fast Internet service to stay connected through video sessions with clients, this is unacceptable. Additionally, there is no way to file a complaint or speak to someone about prorating my bill since I pay full price each month for this service, yet do not receive the service for the entire time.113Views2likes1CommentTerrible service
Signed up with cox for the first time, tech had to lay a new line through my yard and my neighbors, was told it would be buried in 4 weeks. 3 months later I call in to see why it hasn't been buried yet and was told by the call center to pretty much figure it out myself. Another 3 months go by and my neighbor runs the line over with the mower so I have no internet. I work from home so I lost a day , contacted the call center again they said no one was available tile Friday afternoon, when no one showed I called back in and found out no appt was ever made. Worst call center that I have ever encountered, time to switch companies.33Views0likes1CommentThe Connection to the outgoing server “smtp.cox.net” failed
